Abstract:
The present invention relates to a cathode ray tube (CRT) having an improved electrical connector. An electrical connector is provided for detachably coupling an electrical lead to the electron gun through the neck of the CRT. The connector has a through passage defined by a diameter greater than the diameter of the neck. The neck is inserted in the passage and the connector is secured to the outer surface of the neck. Adjacent the passage is a plurality of integral resilient leaf springs extending toward the stem at a plurality of circumferentially spaced locations. The leaf spring elements include base elements for terminal engagement and tip ends projecting and bias toward the electrical leads of the electron gun to provide electrical connection to the cathode ray tube. The passage of the connector is preferably defined by an opening in a printed circuit board or other electrical terminal contact from which the leaf springs extend.
Abstract:
On an inner wall of a side wall portion of a funnel, a pair of protrusions are integrally formed as glass buildups at positions separated by a predetermined distance from an anode button toward a side of a neck tube. The pair of the protrusions are formed symmetrically on both sides of a virtual baseline extending to an seal edge surface and the neck tube through the center of the anode button. The virtual baseline is an intersection between a virtual plane including a tube axis and the inner wall, and passes through approximately the center of the seal edge surface in the lengthwise side.

A cathode ray tube with a central axis includes a panel with an inner phosphor screen and a rear portion. A funnel is connected to the rear portion of the panel. The funnel sequentially has a body with a large-sized end and a small-sized end, and a cone portion with a large-sized end and a small-sized end. The large-sized end of the body is sealed to the rear portion of the panel. The small-sized end of the body meets the large-sized end of the cone portion at a point. The meeting point of the body and the cone portion becomes an inflection point of the funnel. The cone portion has a sectional shape varying from a circle to a non-circle like a rectangle while proceeding from the small sized end to the large sized end such that the cone portion is provided with a curvature radius Rh in the horizontal axis direction, a curvature radius Rv in the vertical axis direction, and a curvature radius Rd in the diagonal axis direction. The horizontal, vertical and diagonal curvature radii Rh, Rv and Rd of the cone portion of the funnel satisfy the following condition: Rh
Abstract:
For use in a color cathode ray tube (CRT) having a display screen with a flat outer surface and a curved inner surface, a 2-layer antistatic and antireflective coating for the display screen's flat outer surface compensates for the variation in screen thickness to provide uniform light transmission through the screen and coating combination, a high degree of video image contrast, effective electrostatic shielding and discharge, and reduced light reflectivity. The coating includes a first inner electrically conductive layer disposed on the CRT display screen's flat outer surface containing carbon black particles for a high level of video image contrast and improved electrical conductivity for electrostatic shielding and discharge. The extent of light transmission through the inner conductive layer may be adjusted in accordance with the display screen's thickness by varying the amount of carbon black particles in the coating solution.
Abstract:
A color cathode ray tube and a getter assembly for use in such a cathode ray tube. The getter assembly comprises a conducting strip for contacting a high-voltage contact with a magnetic screening cone inside a cone portion of the tube. Due to the relatively large deflection angle of modern cathode ray tubes with flat display screens, the getter assembly has to be made smaller. The getter assembly of the invention has a notch for directly engaging the high voltage contact. In case of reworking during the manufacturing process, an operator can slide the new getter assembly with the aid of a special tool, from the neck side along the inner wall for engagement with the high-voltage contact.
Abstract:
A structure of a panel for a flat type cathode ray tube having an outer panel surface approximating a completely flat surface and an inner panel surface with a radius of curvature is provided. A difference between a panel thickness at a central part of the panel and a panel thickness at each of the diagonal corner parts of the panel satisfies a condition of 1.7≦T2/T1≦2.2, where T1 represents the panel thickness at the central panel part and T2 represents the panel thickness at the diagonal corner panel parts. Further, compressive stresses exhibited at at least one part of the outer panel surface satisfy a condition of 6.0 MPa≦|&sgr;|≦15.0 MPa, where &sgr; represents the compressive stresses exhibited at at least one part of the panel. This panel structure can maximize an effect of preventing an in-furnace thermal breakage of the panel.
Abstract:
A process for recovering rare-earth phosphors from an interior of a lamp envelope (12). The interior of the envelope defines a wall and a base layer (14) is adhered to the wall. A coating layer (16) having the rare-earth phosphors is adhered to the base layer. The process includes flowing a gas through the envelope at a rate sufficient to remove particles of the coating layer but not the base layer. The process also includes collecting the particles of the coating layer, the particles containing the rare-earth phosphors. Lamp envelopes (12) having a base layer (14) and a phosphor coating layer (16) suitable for use with the recycling method are also discussed.

A cathode ray tube with a central tube axis Z includes a panel with an inner phosphor screen and a rear portion. The panel has a substantially rectangular effective screen portion with two long sides in a horizontal axis direction, two short sides in a vertical axis direction and four edges in a diagonal axis direction. A funnel is connected to the rear portion of the panel. The funnel sequentially has a body with a large-sized end and a small-sized end, and a cone portion with a large-sized end and a small-sized end. The cone portion has a thickness Th in the horizontal axis direction, a thickness Tv in the vertical axis direction and a thickness Td in the diagonal axis direction. The horizontal thickness Th, the vertical thickness Tv and the diagonal thickness Td of the cone portion of the funnel in the tube axis Z direction satisfy the following condition: Th(z)=Tv(z)>Td(z).
