    摘要: An axial resistance sheathed heater is presented. The axial resistance sheathed heater includes a retaining sheath having a first end and a second end and a resistance wire completely disposed within the retaining sheath. The heater further includes a first conductor rod partially disposed within the retaining sheath and extending beyond the first end of the retaining sheath, the first conductor rod in direct electrical communication and direct mechanical communication with the resistance wire; and a second conductor rod partially disposed within said retaining sheath and extending beyond the second end of the retaining sheath, the second conductor rod in direct electrical communication and direct mechanical communication with the resistance wire. The resistance wire, the first conductor rod and the second conductor rod comprise a circuit achieving a power to voltage rating of about 5000:24.

    摘要: An apparatus for use in controlling a temperature of an oblong-shaped molten glass-carrying vessel, such as a conduit for transporting the molten glass from one location to another location, by flowing a current through the vessel. The apparatus comprises a metal flange comprising a plurality of electrically-conductive rings that include an inner ring joined to the vessel's exterior wall and an outer ring surrounding the inner ring. The inner ring, for example, may include an outer perimeter that is substantially oblong. In some embodiments the inner ring comprises a notch that aids in making current density more uniform. In some examples the width of the inner ring, excluding the notch, does not substantially vary as a function of angular position relative to the vessel.

    摘要: An immersion heater capable of completely avoiding a situation where an outer circumferential border of a spiral heating element is pressed to an inner wall of a protecting tube, and preventing disconnection due to contact between adjacent portions of the heating element. In the immersion heater, one edge portion of a metal strip heating element (8) is inserted into, and held in a spiral groove (7) to form a spiral heating part (9). Cylindrical-body supporting members (11) are provided and each has a diameter smaller than an inner diameter of the ceramic bottom protecting tube (2) and larger than an outer diameter of the spiral heating part. The cylindrical-body supporting members are fitted into a hollow portion of the insulating cylindrical body (6) and are arranged in openings at a fore-end and a back-end of the insulating cylindrical body, respectively.

The inner jacket (21), the outer jacket (22) and the wall surfaces (25, 26) are contiguous and are formed of a single piece of material. A process for manufacturing an electric heater is provided including either the steps of inserting a tubular electric heating element into a provided section of a metal strip, whose side edges are connected to one another, and joint shaping of at least the heating element and metal strip into a double-walled tube with a recess passing through the inner jacket and outer jacket of the double-walled tube or the steps of providing a double-walled tube with an inner jacket and an outer jacket, which has a recess, which passes completely through the inner jacket and the outer jacket, in the direction in which the electric heater extends, and which is delimited by wall surfaces from the space between the inner jacket and outer jacket and in which the inner jacket, the outer jacket and the wall surfaces are formed from a single piece of material, and inserting the tubular heating element into an insertion opening provided on the front side of the double-walled tube.

An attachment material (50) is thermally sprayed over cords (32) of the electrical leads (22, 24), which are in contact with the heating layer (16) over a contact area (20). The attachment material (50) and the heating layer 16 are further thermally sprayed with a layer (52), which is an isolating material. The thermal sprayed connection between the electrical leads (22, 24) and the heating layer (16) thus provides more intimate contact and an improved electrical connection.

    摘要: An improved construction for a heating element for an appliance is disclosed. A coiled resistance wire extending coaxially along the length of an elongate sheath is surrounded by an electrically insulating, high thermally conductive material that fills the sheath around the wire. The resistance wire is secured to a terminal pin at a connection comprising a connection insert that is securely affixed to the terminal pin, intermediate the terminal pin and resistance wire. The resistance wire is then able to be welded to the connector to provide a superior mechanical connection between a terminal pin and the resistance wire, even though the terminal pin is made from copper. The disclosed construction, therefore, provides good electrical and thermal conductivity and resists the tendency to separate during manufacture.
