The first layer contains a first material and a second material, the second layer contains a third material, the third layer contains a light-emitting material and a fourth material, the fourth layer contains a fifth material and a sixth material, the first material has a HOMO level higher than or equal to −5.7 eV and lower than or equal to −5.4 eV, the second material has an acceptor property, the third material has a lower HOMO level than the first material, the fifth material has a HOMO level higher than or equal to −6.0 eV, and the sixth material is an organic complex of alkali metal or an organic complex of alkaline earth metal.

Abstract: A light-emitting device includes a first electrode, a second electrode facing the first electrode, and an interlayer between the first electrode and the second electrode. The interlayer includes a hole transport region and an emission layer, the hole transport region is between the first electrode and the emission layer, the hole transport region includes a first layer in direct contact with the emission layer, the emission layer includes a first host and a first emitter. The first emitter is to emit first light having a peak emission wavelength of about 610 nm to about 720 nm. The first layer includes a first material. Both an absolute value of a highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level of the first material and an absolute value of the HOMO energy level of the first emitter are greater than an absolute value of a HOMO energy level of the first host.

The device includes an enhancement layer, comprising a plasmonic material exhibiting surface plasmon resonance that non-radiatively couples to the organic emissive material and transfers excited state energy from the organic emissive material to the non-radiative mode of surface plasmon polaritons. The enhancement layer is provided no more than a threshold distance away from the organic emissive layer, where the organic emissive material has a total non-radiative decay rate constant and a total radiative decay rate constant due to the presence of the enhancement layer. At least one of the organic emissive material and the organic emissive layer has a vertical dipole ratio (VDR) value of equal or greater than 0.33.

Abstract: An organic EL device includes at least an anode, a first light-emitting layer, an intermediate layer, a second light-emitting layer, and a cathode in this order. The intermediate layer is adjacent to the first light-emitting layer and the second light-emitting layer. The first light-emitting layer and the second light-emitting layer can trap electrons. A material constituting the intermediate layer is a hydrocarbon that has a HOMO level equal to or lower than the HOMO level of a host of the first light-emitting layer and that has a high S1 level.
