Abstract: A base station is configured to transmit wake-up signals to a user equipment to wake-up the UE to receive a page from the base station. The base station transmits one or more synchronization signals, wherein the synchronization signals correspond to a wake-up signal (WUS) that is to be transmitted to a user equipment (UE) operating in a paging discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle, wherein the paging DRX cycle includes a paging occasion (PO) and transmits the WUS to the UE during a WUS occasion, wherein the WUS indicates whether the UE is to utilize an active mode or a sleep mode during the PO.

Abstract: Some embodiments include an apparatus, method, and computer program product for tracking reference signal (TRS) support of high speed use cases of 5G communications in a single frequency network (SFN), where a user equipment (UE) can measure a Doppler offset of a combined signal from two or more transmission reception points (TRPs) of the 5G communications system. A 5G node B (gNB) node can transmit a periodic, semi-persistent (SP), or aperiodic TRS with high measurement density that the UE uses to measure a Doppler offset of a combined signal. For example, the gNB can: trigger the aperiodic TRS based on a downlink assignment; and/or use lower layer signaling to arrange to transmit a semi-persistent TRS or a periodic TRS with a reduced periodicity. In some embodiments, the gNB can measure the Doppler offset based on an uplink signal, and transmit a TRS based on a pre-compensated Doppler frequency.

Abstract: Some embodiments include an apparatus, method, and computer program product for enhanced direct secondary cell activation in a 5G wireless communications system. A user equipment (UE) can receive a Radio Resource Control (RRC) command from a 5G Node B (gNB) via a Primary Cell (PCell) or via a Primary Secondary Cell (PSCell) that includes configuration data for a Secondary Cell (SCell), where the SCell operates in Frequency Range 2 (FR2). The RRC command includes a first Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) state for the SCell, and the UE can activate the SCell for the UE based at least on the configuration data, concurrently with the first TCI state for receiving the PDCCH transmission. The UE can receive a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) transmission via a first antenna beam from the SCell, where the first antenna beam is based on the first TCI state.

Abstract: Approaches are described that enhance the reliability of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) detection where the PDCCH can be transmitted repeatedly with different beams. The approaches use soft combining where the user equipment (UE) combines the soft bits from each repetition, with the combined soft bits used to jointly decode the PDCCH repetitions. To support the soft combining, the UE needs to buffer the soft bits. Buffering approaches include determining what contributes towards the buffering, including scenarios where one of the linked search sets (SSs) is dropped, what is contributed in a linked SS set pair, how the duration of buffer counting is determined, and how the UE reports its maximum buffer size capability. In scenarios where the required buffer size exceeds the UE maximum buffer size, a priority rule may be used in the PDCCH decoding using the SS sets pair, where the priority is based on the SS type, the serving cell index, the SS set ID and/or the control channel resource set (CORESET) ID.

Abstract: Some embodiments include an apparatus, method, and computer program product for using low layer protocols for inter-cell mobility management in a 5G wireless communications system. A serving 5G node B (gNB) can configure reports that a user equipment (UE) transmits to the serving gNB to make handover decisions. The serving gNB can configure a group of Transmission Configuration Indication (TCI) states (e.g., a group of beams) that correspond a physical cell, and the report includes layer 3 measurements corresponding to a neighboring or serving cell's TCI state. The report can be conveyed using lower layer protocols. The report can include layer 1 measurements conveyed using a layer 1 protocol and the serving gNB can perform filtering to generate corresponding layer 3 measurement results. Based on the reports, the serving gNB can perform a handover and synchronization using lower layer protocols, from one TCI state to another.
