    Abstract: A propulsion unit is disclosed, which can include a casing, a shaft, a propeller, an annular housing and a rim drive electric motor. The casing can be rotatably supported at a hull of a vessel. The shaft can be rotatably supported with bearings within a lower portion of the casing. A propeller can be attached to an outer end of the shaft protruding from the lower portion of the casing. The annular housing can surround an outer perimeter of the propeller and can form a duct for water flowing through the interior of the annular housing. The rim drive electric motor can include a rotor rim provided on an outer perimeter of the propeller and a stator provided within the annular housing. Oil lubricated roller bearings can be used on the shaft within the casing. The axial length of the propulsion unit can be short.

    Abstract: A slip clutch includes a driven member, a spring, at least one friction plate interfacing with the driven member and an adjustment nut. The friction plate is pressed against the driven member through the combination of the spring and adjustment nut. The adjustment nut has multiple lobes and profiled surfaces between the lobes having a smaller radius from the axis of rotation of the clutch than the lobes. A hub extends along the axis through the driven member, spring, friction plate, and adjustment nut. The adjustment nut is rotationally fixed with respect to the hub and has a reduced profile to improve airflow to other components of the slip clutch.

    Abstract: A power converter includes an output converter having a 3-phase or higher output, an inductor coupled to the output converter and a switch device coupled to the inductor. The switch device charges the inductor via a DC input during a first stage of a switching cycle of the switch device. The output converter discharges the inductor to a load coupled to the 3-phase or higher output during a second stage of the switching cycle. The output converter includes a phase leg for each phase of the 3-phase or higher output, each phase leg having a first thyristor device connected in series with a second thyristor device. Each phase of the 3-phase or higher output originates between the first thyristor device and the second thyristor device of the corresponding phase leg.
