Abstract: A method of generating summary media content includes providing media content by an electronic device and identifying one or more periods of high user engagement with the media content. The one or more periods of high user engagement are identified by obtaining biometric information, via one or more biometric sensors, from a user while the user interacts with the media content. Based on the biometric information, at least one media content portion is isolated from the media content and is used to generate summary media content.

Abstract: A nonvolatile memory is coupled to a processor in a set top box. On the timing sequence set within the system, set top box data is transferred from the processor to the nonvolatile memory. Set top box system data includes user data and set top box specific data. The current data is maintained in the nonvolatile memory. The system data can be transferred to second memory by a wireless connection even when the set top box is not coupled to a power supply. The system data can then be provided from the second memory to any selected device, computer or location, such as another set top box, a diagnostic tool, a repair facility or other selected location.

Abstract: Various arrangements for porting wireless network credentials, such as between television receivers, are presented herein. A remote control may be paired with a first television receiver, such as a host television receiver. Wireless network credentials may be provided to and stored by the paired remote control. The remote control can then be paired with a second television receiver, such as a client television receiver. The second television receiver can then receive the stored wireless network credentials from the remote control. The second television receiver can then connect with a wireless network using the received wireless network credentials, such as to communicate with the host television receiver or access the Internet.

Abstract: An antenna includes a folding mechanism for configuring the antenna into at least one of a first configuration and a second configuration. A method for preparing for shipment an antenna having a reflector with a width, a height, and depth, a backing structure coupled to the reflector, a first swivel plate, coupled to the backing structure, a feed arm bracket coupled to the first swivel plate, and a feed arm coupled to the feed arm bracket. The first swivel plate facilitates yaw rotations of the feed arm bracket, relative to the backing structure.

One or more insertion rules may be evaluated that are mapped to a content item. The content item may be determined to have met an output rate threshold. An alternative piece of content may be selected for insertion based on the content item having met the output threshold rate. The television receiver may be triggered to substitute the alternative content item into a television channel stream to replace the content item.

Abstract: A system for controlling turning on and off of closed captioning receives information regarding a program content stream and automatically determines whether to turn on or off closed captioning based on thresholds being crossed regarding an estimated current loudness level of ambient noise and an estimated current loudness level of the audio of the program content stream. The estimated current loudness level of audio of the program content stream is, or is based on, one or more indications of current volume level in an audio signal representing the audio of the program content stream and current audio settings of a device outputting the audio of the program content stream. The system may estimate the loudness level of the ambient noise by use of a loudness meter that causes the ambient noise to be sampled with a microphone and a decibel level of the sampled ambient noise to be determined.

Abstract: Introduced here are systems to manage and discover a processing offloader. A first multimedia device may identify a processing offloader in a networked environment. A first multimedia device may determine that a bandwidth of a second multimedia device in the networked environment falls below a threshold bandwidth, indicating that the second multimedia device may process instructions and render multimedia information with increased latency or delay. Based on this determination, the first multimedia device may forward instructions from the second multimedia device to the processing offloader for the processing offloader to process and render multimedia information on behalf of the second multimedia device based on the received instructions. The first multimedia device may forward rendered multimedia information from the processing offloader to the second multimedia device, and the second multimedia device may output the rendered multimedia information to an output device.

Abstract: A technique is directed to methods and systems for outputting alerts on user interfaces. In some implementations, an alert system can identify devices connected to the alert interface and determine the user interface capabilities (e.g., audio, visual, or vibration) of each device. Upon receiving an alert of an emergency event, the alert system can determine the location of the user within a structure and select a device(s) nearby the user to transmit or display the notification of the emergency event to the user. The selected device can identify the emergency event and output the alert based upon the visual audible, or vibration user interface capabilities of the selected device.
