Abstract:
Methods and systems for reducing overhead paging are described. One example of such a method includes generating a compressed traffic indication map (TIM) element, the compressed TIM element comprising a partial virtual bitmap field constructed from at least one encoded block field that includes an encoded block information field identifying at least one encoding mode for encoded block information, and sending the compressed TIM element to an at least one station (STA) associated with the access point that supports at least one multiple basic service set identifier (BSSID). The method may also include, in response to the at least one encoding mode comprising an offset, length, bitmap (OLB) mode, encoding the encoded block information field to include a length subfield followed by contiguous subblock subfields, each subblock subfield including a corresponding subblock of a partial virtual map.
Abstract:
Methods, devices, and computer program products for transmitting and receiving discovery messages in a wireless communication device are described herein. One aspect of the subject matter described in the disclosure provides a method of discovering devices in a wireless communication system. The method includes receiving a first discovery message from a first device of a device cluster comprising a plurality of devices during a first discovery interval. The first discovery message includes information associated with the device cluster. The method further includes transmitting a discovery trigger message in response to the first discovery message. The method further includes receiving a second discovery message from at least one device of device cluster during a second discovery interval. The second discovery message is configured to advertise a plurality of services provided by the at least one device of the device cluster in response to the discovery trigger message.
Abstract:
A method includes determining, at a transmitter, whether the transmitter supports multi-fragment acknowledgment (MFA) based on a parameter of the transmitter. The method also includes transmitting a first frame to a receiver. A fragment block acknowledgment (BA) support sub-field of a sub-1 gigahertz (S1G) capabilities information field of a S1G capabilities element of the first frame has a first value in response to determining that the transmitter supports MFA. The fragment BA support sub-field has a second value in response to determining that the transmitter does not support MFA.
Abstract:
A method includes, at a first device while the first device is connected to a wireless local area network (WLAN) and a second device is unconnected to the WLAN, establishing a secure channel to the second device using an EAP exchange. The method also includes sending at least one credential associated with the WLAN to the second device via the secure channel to enable the second device to connect to the WLAN.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for setting up a relay in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, a transmitter of a station is configured to transmit a relay request to an access point. The access point is configured to transmit a discovery request frame based on the relay request to at least one relay. Each of the at least one relay is configured to transmit a discovery message based on the discovery request frame to the station. A processor of the station is configured to select one relay of the at least one relay based on each received discovery message. The transmitter is further configured to transmit a message comprising an identification of the selected one relay of the at least one relay to the access point.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for compressing block acknowledgment (ACK) frames/packets are described herein. In some aspects, a method of communicating in a wireless network includes generating a compressed block acknowledgment frame including one or more of the following fields in a physical layer header: duration, receiver address, transmitter address, block acknowledgment control, block acknowledgment policy, compressed bitmap, compression control, starting sequence number. The method further includes transmitting the compressed block acknowledgment frame.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for reducing collisions in a wireless communications network are described herein. In one aspect an apparatus for wireless communication is provided. The apparatus includes a transmitter configured to transmit a first message over a communication medium to a plurality of nodes configured to be selectively at least partially powered down during time periods in which the first message is not expected to be transmitted. The first message indicates a subset of the plurality of nodes for which data is available for transmission. The apparatus further includes a controller configured to initiate a process for transmitting the data available to the subset of the plurality of nodes after the first message is transmitted.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for communicating in a wireless communication system are described. Various processes for reducing the initial link set up time are described. In one aspect, a method in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes receiving, at a device, at least two different access request messages each for establishing a link with the device. The method further includes determining a period of time for transmitting access response messages in response to the received access request messages. The method further includes reserving a period of transmission time on a channel for transmitting the access response messages for establishing the link, the reservation based at least in part on the determined period of time. The method further includes transmitting the access response messages during the reserved period of time.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for communicating packets having a plurality of types are described herein. In some aspects, the packets include a compressed header. In one embodiment, a compression protocol is selected from a plurality of compression protocols to compress a first packet header. The packet may contain a second packet header, which may include information indicative of the compression protocol used to compress the first packet header. The packet may be transmitted, including the first packet header which is compressed using the selected compression protocol.
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for efficiently managing groups of stations (STAs) receiving simultaneous transmissions in a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) scheme. One example method generally includes; for a first apparatus in a number of groups of apparatuses, allocating a first spatial stream position for each of at least one first group in the number of the groups; and transmitting a first unicast message to the first apparatus, wherein the first unicast message comprises an indication of the allocated spatial stream position for each of the at least one first group and, for each group in the number of the groups, an indication of a membership status, in the group, of the first apparatus.
