    摘要: A method of making a photoflash article including a substrate member, a plurality (e.g., ten) of electrically-activated photoflash lamps, and a light-transmitting polymer covering which encapsulates each of the photoflash lamps and is also secured to the substrate member to define a unitary component. The substrate is produced by injection molding with each of the lamps subsequently positioned therein. This assembled component is then either placed within an injection mold apparatus and a predetermined quantity of thermoplastic or thermosetting resin injected therein to define the polymer member, or the polymer is added in liquid form to completely fill each of the substrate member's individual lamp-receiving compartments. The finished article is especially suited for forming part of a completed photoflash device further including circuitry and other items, such as described in the present art.

    摘要: An electrically-activated photoflash lamp which includes a lead glass envelope, a quantity of shredded zirconium or hafnium combustible material within the envelope, a combustion-supporting gas (e.g., oxygen) also within the envelope, and an ignition structure disposed within the envelope for igniting the combustible material upon application of a high voltage, low energy pulse thereto. The ignition structure includes a pair of metallic lead wires secured within one end of the envelope and having terminations which lie substantially flush with the interior surface of this end. A quantity of primer material bridges the terminations and is ignited upon application of the above pulse. The lead wires are secured and hermetically sealed within the envelope's end without the need for a press sealing operation. A method of making this lamp is also provided.

    摘要: Means for activating a multilamp flashlamp article in response to movement of a door. An activator having several upstanding engagement members is operatively joined to the base portion of a two-part housing. Movement of a pivoted arm portion of the housing toward the base causes a casing member to move about the activator whereby each of the engagement arms will activate a respective lamp unit within the flashlamp article. The invention is ideally suited for use within an intrusion alarm system.

    摘要: A glow discharge lamp includes a light-transmitting envelope containing a noble gas fill material. An anode electrode and a cathode electrode are spacedly located within the envelope. The anode electrode includes a single wire having a convoluted portion adjacent the cathode electrode and lying in a plane parallel to a plane intersecting the cathode electrode and a pair of lead-in wires supporting the cathode electrode. The improved anode construction results in an increase in both light output and lamp efficacy.

    摘要: A tri-model thermal switch for use in a preheat-type discharge lamp. The thermal switch includes a glass bulb, first and second electrical leads sealed into and passing through the glass bulb, and a bimetallic element disposed within the bulb and having first and second end portions. The first end portion of the bimetallic element is affixed to the first electrical lead while the second end portion of the bimetallic element is formed to be in contact with the second electrical lead at a first elevated temperature higher than ambient temperature. The bimetallic element is spaced from the second electrical lead at ambient temperature and at a second elevated temperature higher than the first elevated temperature. During lamp operation, the thermal switch produces a double hot spot on the cathode by electrically shorting the cathode lead-in wires. As a result, the electrode temperature is lowered sufficiently to cause an improvement in the lumen maintenance and life of the lamp.
