    摘要: A panel structure including four plastic sheets arranged in layered relationship and including an upper sheet, a lower sheet, an upper intermediate sheet positioned beneath the upper sheet, and a lower intermediate sheet positioned between the upper intermediate sheet and the lower sheet. The upper intermediate sheet includes a planar main body portion and a plurality of spaced downwardly extending bosses opening in the upper face of the upper intermediate sheet and each including an annular side wall and a lower end. The lower intermediate sheet includes a planar main body portion and a plurality of spaced upwardly extending bosses opening in the lower face of the lower intermediate sheet and each including an annular side wall and an upper end. The lower ends of the downwardly extending bosses are fused to the upper face of the lower intermediate sheet between adjacent upwardly extending bosses; the upper ends of the upwardly extending bosses are fused to the lower face of the upper intermediate sheet between adjacent downwardly extending bosses; and the adjacent annular side walls of the upwardly and downwardly extending bosses are fused together. The upper sheet is fused to the upper face of the upper intermediate sheet in overlying relation to the boss openings in the upper intermediate sheet and the lower sheet is fused to the lower face of the lower intermediate sheet in underlying relation to the boss openings in the lower intermediate sheet.

    摘要: A method of utilizing a male mold and a complementary female mold to thermoform first and second plastic sheets and thereafter fuse the sheets together to form a twin sheet plastic article. The female mold is moved upwardly into sealing engagement with the underside of the first plastic sheet to form an annular seal with the first plastic sheet; a bubble is formed in the first plastic sheet within the annular seal; the male mold is lowered into the bubble to move the bubble into general conformity with the cavity surface; the male mold is raised; a vacuum is applied to the cavity surface to conform the bubble totally to the cavity surface; a second plastic sheet is positioned between the molds; a pre-draw box is positioned between the second plastic sheet and the female mold and moved upwardly into sealing engagement with the underside of the second plastic sheet to form an annular seal with the second plastic sheet; a bubble is formed in the second plastic sheet within the annular seal; the male mold is moved downwardly into the bubble to generally conform the bubble to the male mold surface; a vacuum is applied to the male mold surface to conform the bubble totally to the male mold surface; the pre-draw box is removed; and the molds are brought together to selectively fuse the first plastic sheet to the second plastic sheet to form the twin sheet plastic article.

    摘要: A plastic pallet including an upper plastic platform structure defining a load receiving surface and a lower plastic base structure defining the pallet support surface. The platform structure and the base structure are interconnected by leg or strut structures which coact with the platform structure and the base structure to define tunnels for the entry of material handling equipment. A series of upper beams are provided in the platform structure, a corresponding series of lower beams are provided in the base structure, and the struts interconnecting the platform structure and base structure serve to interconnect a respective upper beam with a respective lower beam so as to form of series of trusses within the pallet and optimize the rigidity of the pallet. The leg structures interconnecting the platform structure and the base structure are formed as clusters of small leg portions so as to minimize the size of the openings of the legs in the load receiving surface and in the pallet support surface and thereby preserve the planar integrity of these surfaces.

    摘要: An improved laminated structural material; an improved method of forming a relatively rigid structural article such as a pallet; and an improved structural article using the invention laminated structural material. The invention article is formed by separately extruding relatively thin outer skin layers of a 25% talc filled polyethylene material and a relatively thick central core layer of an essentially virgin polyethylene material; bonding the layers together to form a composite laminate strip including the relatively thin talc filled outer skins and the thick central core layer of virgin polyethylene; severing the strip to form upper and lower sheets; heating the upper and lower sheets in an oven to place them in a flowable condition; delivering the upper and lower sheets respectively to upper and lower molds carried by upper and lower platens of a press; vacuum forming the upper and lower sheets respectively to the upper and lower molds; and thereafter bringing the platens of the press together to selectively knit or fuse the upper and lower sheets together to form the article. The article produced by the invention methodology costs only slightly more than an article formed of virgin polyethylene material and yet has vastly superior stiffness characteristics as compared to the virgin polyethylene article while retaining substantially all of the superior impact characteristics of the virgin polyethylene article.

    摘要: A plastic pallet in which a plurality of beam assemblies are positioned beneath the plastic main body of the pallet to discourage warpage and failure of the pallet, especially in racked, loaded storage situations. The plastic structure of the pallet includes a planar platform section defining an upwardly facing load receiving surface and a plurality of legs extending downwardly from the platform section to define tunnels therebetween for receipt of the forks of a forklift truck. The beam structures extend in parallel fashion beneath the plastic structure. Each beam structure includes a central upstanding spine portion received in downwardly opening grooves defined in the bottoms of aligned legs, and a base portion which extends beneath the bottoms of the legs to provide a base on which each pallet may rest. Each beam structure is formed of a central tubular steel beam encapsulated by upper and lower plastic sheets which are fused together to totally enclose the steel beam and to form the base portion of the beam structure.

    摘要: A plastic pallet in which an insert assembly is positioned within the hollow of the plastic pallet to discourage warpage and failure especially in racked, storage situations. The insert assembly comprises a pair of beams arranged in an X-configuration, tower members secured at their upper ends to respective ends of the beams and positioned respectively in the four corners of the pallet, and tensioning straps extending between the tower members around the perimeter of the pallet proximate the upper surface of the bottom wall of the pallet. The X-configured beams are positioned in the space between the spaced upper and lower sheets of the platform structure of the pallet and are maintained in a convexly bowed configuration by the tensioning straps so as to resist downward bowing of the platform structure, even when the pallet is racked for extended periods of time in a loaded condition.

    摘要: A plastic reinforcing structure for use with a container of the type including a corrugated sleeve adapted to be removably attached to a plastic pallet or base member by the use of sliding latch members coacting with slots in the lower peripheral portion of the sleeve. The reinforcing structure is formed as a single piece of plastic material and includes an inner planar portion, an outer planar portion, a central wall portion, and inner and outer tubular portions carrying lips on their leading edges. In use, the central wall of the reinforcing structure is positioned under and along the lower edge of the sleeve beneath a slot in the sleeve and the inner and outer planar portions are swung upwardly about live hinges provided between the bottom wall and the inner and outer planar portions. As the inner and outer portions are swung upwardly and inwardly, the tubular portions enter the slot from the inner and outer faces of the sleeve and the lips on the tubular portions lockingly coact to positively secure the reinforcing structure to the sleeve with the tubular portions providing a liner for the slot in the sleeve and the planar portions positioned against protecting the outer and inner faces of the sleeve surrounding the slot.

    摘要: A plastic pallet of twin sheet construction formed in a vacuum thermal forming process. The upper sheet includes a series of downwardly extending hollow upwardly opening bosses arranged in staggered rows and the lower sheet includes a series of upwardly extending hollow downwardly opening bosses generally corresponding in size, number, shape and distribution pattern to the downwardly extending bosses on the upper sheet. The lower walls of the downwardly extending bosses are fused to the upper walls of the upwardly extending bosses in the thermal forming process so as to form a series of vertical columns extending between the upper and lower sheets and maintaining the sheets in fixed spaced relation. The pallet further includes a plurality of legs spaced circumferentially about the periphery of the pallet and depending downardly from the pallet. Each of the legs is formed of a downwardly extending portion of each of the sheets and forms an upwardly opening pocket opening in the upper face of the upper surface of the upper sheet to allow nesting of the pallet with other pallets of similar construction.
