Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to a communication between a user equipment (UE) and an evolved Node B (eNB). The UE and eNB may perform enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH)-less operation for scheduling of one or more common control messages, such as one or more system information blocks (SIBs), a random access response (RAR) message, or a paging message. Additionally, or alternatively, an eNB may configure a subset of aggregation levels for the search space of the UE to use for receiving a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) or enhanced PDCCH (EPDCCH). Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

Abstract: Embodiments include apparatuses, methods, and systems that may be used in a UE in a mobile communication network to communicate with a gNB. An apparatus may include a memory and processing circuitry coupled with the memory. The processing in circuitry may cause coarse time and frequency synchronization information, obtained from primary and secondary synchronization signals (PSS/SSS), to be stored in the memory. Based on the coarse time and frequency synchronization information, the processing circuitry may decode a physical broadcast channel to obtain a first system information, and may acquire a second system information based on the first system information. Based on the first and second system information, the processing circuitry may cause a transmission of a PRACH, to trigger a transmission of a TRS by the gNB. Other embodiments may also be described and claimed.

Abstract: An eNodeB (eNB), user equipment (UE) and method of providing a flexible Radio Access Technology (FRAT) are generally described. The information (resource allocation, partition information and numerology) of at least one of a plurality of RATs used by the eNB is provided to a UE. Each RAT has a flexible subcarrier spacing and symbol duration, which are integer multiples of a base subcarrier spacing and symbol duration, and is associated with at least one of different temporal and frequency resources. The symbol and/or frame structure of each RAT are independent. A Transmission Time Interval (TTI) boundary between the RATs is common, and the RATs comprise a common reference TTI duration. The information of the RATs is provided either via a different RAT than the RAT used by the UE for communication or via a dedicated carrier in the RAT used by the UE for communication.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for control signaling of beam failure detection are disclosed. A beam pair link may be comprised of multiple bandwidth parts (BWPs) or component carriers (CCs). In one embodiment, a beam failure detection reference signal (BFD RS) may be configured, with subsequent BFD RS instances defining a BFD RS periodicity. A BFD periodicity for monitoring the BFD RS may be configured to be less than, or equal or greater than the BFD RS periodicity. A beam failure may be declared if a minimum number of BFD RS instances, either within the BFD periodicity, or nearest the BFD periodicity if no instances fall within the BFD periodicity, fall below a predetermined threshold. The BFD periodicity and BFD RS may be configured for all BWPs/CCs, a subset of BWPs/CCs, or each individual BWP/CC.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can include processing circuitry configured to decode synchronization information within a synchronization signal (SS) block, the SS block received within a SS burst set and occupying a subset of a plurality of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbols within a slot. At least one of the symbols in the subset coincides with a pre-defined symbol location associated with a demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH). A synchronization procedure can be performed with a next generation Node-B (gNB) based on the synchronization information within the SS block. The DM-RS can be detected within the slot, where the DM-RS starts at a symbol location that is shifted from the pre-defined symbol location and following the subset of symbols. Downlink data received via the PDSCH is decoded based on the detected DM-RS.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) to operate in accordance with a physical random access channel (PRACH) are disclosed herein. The UE may comprise hardware processing circuitry to determine a coverage enhancement category for the UE based on downlink channel statistics related to reception of downlink signals at the UE from an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and an uplink-downlink imbalance parameter related to uplink reception at the eNB. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to select, for use in a coverage enhancement mode, a PRACH preamble from a set of candidate PRACH preambles based on the determined coverage enhancement category for the UE. In some embodiments, at least some of the candidate PRACH preambles may span a different number of sub-frames.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and baseband processors are provided to generate or process symbols in a synchronization subframe. In one example, a method includes selecting non-consecutive orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols in a synchronization subframe. A transmitter is instructed to transmit demodulation reference symbols (DM-RS) on identical first sets of subcarriers in respective OFDM symbols of the selected non-consecutive OFDM symbols for a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) using a same transmit beam, wherein a gap between two subcarriers in a respective set of the identical first sets of subcarriers is three subcarriers. The transmitter is instructed to transmit the PBCH on identical second sets of subcarriers in respective OFDM symbols in the selected non-consecutive OFDM symbols.

Abstract: Devices and methods of simultaneous data reception and measurement are generally described. A UE transmits to an eNB antenna capacity and receives a Beamformed Reference Signal (BRS) configuration in response. Beamformed signals from the eNB include a BRS subframe in accordance with the BRS configuration. The BRS subframe has a BRS whose structure depends on the UE antenna capacity. If the UE has a single antenna panels, neither an EPDCCH nor a PDSCH for the UE is in the BRS frame. If the UE has a single antenna panels and multiple ports or multiple antenna panels, the BRS may contain an EPDCCH or PDSCH for the UE as different ports or antenna panels may be assigned different functionality. The UE measures BRS Received Power (BRS-RP) of the BRS, transmits a BRS report based on the BRS-RP and selects an optimal beam based on BRS-RPs from BRSs of the beams.
