摘要: Some electronic devices project video images onto a display surface that is external to the electronic device, and adjust the projected images to compensate for brightness and/or color of the display surface. An electronic device can include a video generator, a video projector, a camera, a calibration controller. The video generator can generate a video signal, and the video projector can project a video image in response to the video signal onto a display surface that is external to the electronic device to cause reflection of the video image. The camera can sense the reflected video image from the display surface. The calibration controller can adjust brightness and/or color of a subsequent video image that is projected by the video projector to compensate for differences between the video signal and the reflected video image sensed by the camera.

摘要: Communications circuitry includes a controlled antenna tuner. The voltage across elements of the antenna tuner may be determined and, if an over-voltage situation is detected, remedial action may be taken. At times when a configuration of the antenna tuner is to be maintained and an over-voltage condition exists, the remedial action may include lowering an output power from a transceiver. Another type of remedial action may include introducing a phase shift between an antenna and the antenna tuner. At times when a configuration of the antenna tuner is to be changed and an over-voltage condition exists, the remedial action may include reducing output power of the transceiver. Another type of remedial action may include waiting for an opportune time to change the antenna tuner configuration.

摘要: The control of an antenna tuner for a portable electronic device includes closed loop tuning when sufficient transmit power is present. The closed loop tuning commences using a predetermined antenna tuner configuration for an operational band and device state. The closed loop tuning may be constrained by a tuning range associated with the predetermined antenna tuner configuration for the operational band and device state. Also, when transmit power is low or when a transceiver is in a receive only state, open loop tuning may be conducted by placing the antenna tuner in the predetermined (or default) configuration for the operational band and phone state.

摘要: A spread spectrum system may include a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is configured to transmit a signal having at least one channel, where the signal may include a reference signal, an information signal and a frequency offset between the reference signal and the information signal. The receiver may receive the transmitted signal from the transmitter and mix the received signal in order to retrieve the information signal from the received signal. This allows the receiver to operate at low power (e.g., 10 uW-100 uW).

摘要: Methods, apparatus, and systems are described, in which mobile stations in gaps between conventional cells obtain access to high speed data services by initiating an ad hoc, peer-to-peer connection with an intermediary mobile station and transmitting an access request message to the intermediary mobile station for relaying to a nearby base station. Upon receiving such an access request, a base station determines the approximate location of the mobile station, estimates an angular direction from the base station to the mobile station, and forms a directed antenna beam aimed towards the mobile station for transmission of high speed data to the mobile station. Corresponding techniques in which a base station initiates the establishment of a high speed data link are also disclosed.

摘要: Two or more video streams including a high quality video stream and a low quality video stream are simultaneously transmitted to the mobile communication device over the wireless network. All of the video streams carry the same video content but with different video quality. The high quality video stream is transmitted with a relatively low margin and the low quality video stream is transmitted with a relatively high margin. The mobile communication device can select the high quality video stream when channel conditions are favorable, and may select the low quality video stream when the channel conditions are not good enough to support the high quality video stream.

摘要: The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.

摘要: A method and a system are provided for controlling a controller without physically touching the controller. A hand or other object interacts with a field surrounding the controller, altering the field. A change in characteristic of the altered field causes a corresponding movement of the controller that, in turn, corresponds to an amount of change in a parameter of a target device being controlled by the controller. The parameter of the target device is controlled by the controller while a user has no physical contact with the controller.

摘要: Digital cameras include an image capture system, an object recognition system and an advertisement insertion system. The image capture system captures a visible image as a digital image. The object recognition system recognizes visible objects in the digital image. The advertisement insertion system inserts an advertising-related image into the digital image in response to a visible object in the digital image that was recognized. The user of the digital camera may be compensated for exposure to the advertising-related image.
