Abstract:
Imaging systems, containing at least one charge-coupled device detector, are used for determining contamination of foodstuffs, such as for example, animal carcasses. Image processing algorithms allow for the identification of contaminants.
Abstract:
An explosive delay assembly including a housing, the housing includes a continuous elongated sidewall surrounding a region bounded at one end by a top surface, the top surface including an aperture configured for accepting an end booster where the end booster is attached to a ferrule assembly, the end booster and ferrule assembly connected to form a mild detonating fuze including an explosive charge. The elongated sidewalls include a groove emanating from the aperture and threading around the continuous elongated sidewall to a bottom surface and connected to a channel running from the bottom surface to the top surface. The ferrule assembly is wound around the housing within the groove and inserted into the channel to terminate at a top surface region counterbore. The counterbore is filled with an explosive charge.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to umbrellas having various canopy shapes which shapes can be altered during use. A multiple position rib formed of a telescoping rib girder in combination with a hub slide assembly with multiple hubs allow the umbrella to be opened to two or more functional positions. An embodiment is an umbrella that can be used as a car shade having two open canopy configurations. In a first open position, all multiple position ribs are in an extended position so that the umbrella serves as a conventional rain umbrella. In a second open position, at least one of the multiple position ribs is folded to allow the umbrella to fit inside a vehicle windshield thereby serving as a sun shade. The multiple position rib can be formed of a rigid inner support assembly and a flexible outer cantilevered assembly. Flex strength properties of the outer cantilevered assembly can be varied within a rib and between ribs to provide a stable frame for certain unconventionally shaped umbrellas, including domes with flattened centers, asymmetric rib configurations, and ribs of differing lengths. Flex strength properties of the outer cantilevered assembly can be also varied to increase the flexibility of rib ends without compromising open canopy integrity. On contact rib ends can bend down toward the pole altering the shape of the canopy perimeter. The rib ends can return to their original positions when contact is terminated.
Abstract:
A sunroof assembly (20) of an automotive vehicle employs dual sunroof panes, a pair of movable sunshades and a control system for operating the function thereof. In one aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly provides a substantially transparent front pane (22) which is slidable from a covering position to a retracted position and a substantially transparent rear pane (24) movable from a covering position to an open position. In another aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly (20) provides a pair of substantially transparent panes in combination with a front sunshade (26) and a rear sunshade (28). The sunshades are movable from a functional position to a stowed position. In a further aspect of the present invention, a control system (32) provides an electric switch assembly (30), electrical circuit and software for operating the panes and sunshades.
Abstract:
This invention is a portable device for cleaning air ducts, other parts of ventilation systems, and similar spaces. The device prevents motor burn-out by providing an adjustable slipping means in the transmission connecting the motor's shaft to a cleaning tool.
Abstract:
A system for cleaning building ductwork utilizing the equipment generally used to clean carpets. The system utilizes the vacuum unit and liquid waste tank from a carpet cleaning system. A flexible hose runs between the waste tank and the building ductwork. A water injection system is connected to the hose and is used to spray a stream of water into the air flowing through the flexible ductwork which will entrap any particles contained therein. The "dirty" water flowing out of the hose will flow to the waste tank for collection and disposal.
Abstract:
A stowage system particularly for space applications comprises a flight bag (10), a backpack (66), a backpack adapter plate (96), and a pressurized stowage rack (104). The flight bag (10) is fabricated of a Kevlar/Nomex fabric, and its lid (18) includes an integral transparent panel (22) so that the contents of the bag may be readily identifiable without opening the bag. Beneath the lid (18) is a payload restraint net (24) which is removably attached to the interior liner of the bag to restrain small stowage items. The mesh comprising the net preferably includes one or more access slits (28) for accessing the interior of the case without removing the net and thereby risking loss of contents from the bag. The flight bag (10) also includes a plurality of hook and loop (VELCRO.RTM.) patches (30) about its periphery so that it may be collapsed upon itself for storage when not in use, and may additionally be rafted or trained to other flight bags if desired. The backpack (66) of the inventive stowage system comprises various configurations and can accommodate up to four flight bags or some combination of unique payload and/or foam. Web straps (72, 74, 76, 80, 82, 86), integral to the bag's structure, attach the bag and its contents to the backpack adapter plate (96) via quick release buckles (98, 100). A clear longitudinal panel (102) on the lid (68) allows quick identification of backpack and flight bag contents.
Abstract:
A web support foil positioned adjacent to a Yankee dryer above a creping doctor. The foil supports the web as it leaves the dryer. Mounted to the top of the foil is an adjustable air deflector which is positioned tangent to the Yankee dryer. The air deflector blocks air moving along the web. A slotted opening draws air from a leading-edge pocket collecting fibers which are broken loose during the creping action. The web is held against the bottom side of the foil by one or more air jets which are directed over the bottom surface on the foil. The jets of air function as coanda air jets and prevent the web from sticking to the bottom surface of the foil while creating a Bernoulli effect which holds the web against the bottom of the foil.
Abstract:
A portable roll-up sign having a simplified and economical construction. The sign face is a flexible pvc based sheet that can be imaged on both sides with vinyl graphics or silk screen inks. The sign frame comprises two vertical legs and an intermediate header, all field assembled by mutual interlocking without fasteners or tools. Vertical edges of the face sheet are joined to respective legs by the sign manufacturer by wrapping the same through at least a full turn and clamping with specially shaped retaining clips.
Abstract:
An improved gate drive circuit for use with a switching power device in a power converter and other power-transfer type circuits and the like is described. The gate drive circuit according to the present invention requires fewer components and space that convention prior art gate drive circuits. The drive circuit provides isolation between the control circuitry and the device without storing a significant amount of long-term (i.e., D.C.) energy and is also more energy efficient than many prior art gate drive circuits. Additionally, the present invention comprises means for cleanly terminating the drive signal to the switching power device when the control circuitry terminates operation. This prevents an incorrect signal to the switching power device, which may conduct at an inappropriate time, causing damage to the power converter or power-transfer circuit. Many prior art drive circuits have D.C. blocking capacitors that discharge slowly upon termination and, consequently, cause the switching power device to inadvertently conduct, which may damage the converter.
