    摘要: A detonator for detonation of explosives which provides protection of a primer charge from sympathetic initiation and provides efficient detonation of a base charge. The detonator is comprised of, a hollow detonator shell having first and second ends, said detonator shell has inserted therein a delay element and a primer capsule. Said delay element is positioned within the first end of the shell and has a core running therethrough. The primer capsule has a protective frustrum top having an opening centrally located therein and a tubular bottom. The primer capsule is inserted into the second end of the shell such that the core of the delay element is in contact with the opening in the frustrum top. The primer capsule top contains a primer charge and the bottom contains primer charge and a small amount of base charge material. The top is constructed with heavy walls such that the primer charge is protected. Further, the top is constructed such that upon initiation of the primer charge by the delay element the output of the primer charge is focused toward the base charge material which when initiated initiates an external base charge. The primer capsule construction provides a system wherein the primer charge reaches full velocity and shock by the time it reaches the small amount of base charge material and thus provides more efficient initiation.

    摘要: A digital delay unit for use in blasting operations and the like provides a selected delay between an input impulse signal and an output impulse signal. The delay unit may have a fixed, preset electronically controlled delay period or, optionally, is programmable to enable user-selected changes in an electronically controlled delay lay period. The delay unit has a housing which serves to connect the input and output transmission lines and house the other components, which includes a piezoelectric transducer which converts the input impulse energy, or the energy released by detonation of a booster charge by the input impulse energy, to electrical energy which is used to generate a first electric signal and a second electric signal. An electronic circuit is responsive to the first electric signal to start counting a preprogrammed delay period, after which a second electric signal is emitted to detonate an output charge which ignites one or more output transmission lines, e.g., shock tubes.

    摘要: A delay train ignition buffer (45) is positioned between a transmission tube (11) and a delay train (25) in a detonator housing (15) or a signal transmission tube housing. The buffer controls the rate at which the transmission tube temperature/pressure pulse is applied to the delay train pyrotechnic surface, attenuating the effects of the pulse with a resulting improvement in delay timing precision. The buffer also attenuates the effects of sudden depressurization within the detonator resulting from the rupture of the transmission tube or ejection of the tube from the housing, thereby preventing separation of the reacting pyrotechnic which could otherwise cause the reaction to cease at the point of separation, thus causing failure of the delay train to continue combustion of the pyrotechnic through its length.

    摘要: A nonelectric delay detonator has means for allowing an ignition flame to be transmitted from an ignition transfer hose to a delay device. The delay device causes a secondary charge to detonate after a predetermined delay time. In order to obtain reproducibile delay times of the delay device, a check valve is arranged between one end of the ignition transfer hose and the delay device; this check valve being opened for a short time period due to the excess pressure in the hose and permitting the ignition flame to pass through. During deflagration of the delay device, the check valve is closed again so that the delay device burns within a closed system. In this manner, undefined pressure and gas losses are avoided.

    摘要: An electric delay detonator 10 has a base charge 14, an ignition charge 16 and a fuse element 26 formed from a strip of zirconium. The zirconium strip 26 is forked at both ends having forks 36 which define an ignition portion and forks 34 which define a fuse portion. The forks 34 and 36 have a body portion 38 between them. The fuse portion is adjacent the ignition charge. The fuse element 26 is mounted in a carrier 24 by means of the forked portions 34 and 36. In one embodiment the forked portions 36 are attached to firing wires 28. In another embodiment the detonator has three forks 44.1, 44.2 and 44.3 at its ignition portion, two of the forks being connected to firing wires and the third fork being connected to a control wire. In a further embodiment one firing wire is connected to one end of the fuse element and the other firing wire to the other end. In still a further embodiment, a filament having an incendiary bead is connected to the firing wires, the bead being close to the ignition end of the zirconium strip. Finally there is a space between the fuse portion and the ignition charge to provide electrostatic protection with a bead of lead styphnate being provided on the fuse element to bridge the space and ignite the ignition charge. In use the zirconium strip is ignited at its ignition end and burns along its length at a controlled rate and after a predetermined period it ignites the ignition charge.

    摘要: Improved uniformity of timing, and particularly reduced sensitivity of timing to minor variations in delay charge size, are achieved in delay detonators by placing a loose load of a flame-sensitive ignition composition between a pressed delay charge and an ignition assembly, e.g., a percussion primer, at the actuation end of the detonator. The loose ignition charge has a free surface and is adapted to be ignited in response to direct contact with flame emitted from the ignition of a charge in the ignition assembly. Preferably, the delay charge is pressed into a plastic carrier which, in a non-electric detonator, has an open end terminating between the walls of the detonator shell and a primer shell that closes the actuation end of the detonator, and the ignition charge is loosely loaded into a metal capsule seated against the delay charge.
