Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for managing information related to backup storage activities of data storage systems. In a computer system having one or more independent backup data storage systems coupled to each other and each serving one or more clients, a user may obtain information related to backup activities of any of the backup storage systems from a single location. Through a user interface associated with any of the backup storage systems, or through a stand alone user interface, a user may manage (e.g., organize, display, print) information related to backup activities of any or all of the backup storage systems. System administrators can design and store a variety of report formats that may be utilized by any user to display or print various parameters associated with backup activities in a particular manner. Report formats may be edited by users, and displayed parameters may be dynamically updated to provide for active monitoring of one or more backup storage systems. Additionally, periodic backup activity reports can be generated and automatically sent to designated locations, for example to one or more printers and/or to one or more designated recipients via E-mail.
Abstract:
An irrigation device for a root system of a plant includes a porous housing and plurality of deflectors within the housing to deflect water through the housing to surrounding soil. Water enters the device through natural and artificial surface water sources as well as from a water feed line. Deflectors span an internal cavity of the housing individually or collectively and thereby provide structural support to the sidewall of the housing. Deflectors that span and subdivide the internal cavity include at least one orifice for the passage of water and air. Interconnected deflectors simplify the installation and maintenance of the device. Deflectors interconnect with other deflectors directly in a self-supporting support structure or with a support structure having one or more support elements, Deflectors have varying deflecting surfaces including unitary deflecting surfaces and multifaceted deflecting surfaces having, among others, conical and pyramidal configurations.
Abstract:
A continuously variable planetary gear set is described having a generally tubular idler, a plurality of balls distributed radially about the idler, each ball having a tiltable axis about which it rotates, a rotatable input disc positioned adjacent to the balls and in contact with each of the balls, a rotatable output disc positioned adjacent to the balls opposite the input disc and in contact with each of the balls such that each of the balls makes three-point contact with the input disc, the output disc and the idler, and a rotatable cage adapted to maintain the axial and radial position of each of the balls, wherein the axes of the balls are oriented by the axial position of the idler.

Abstract:
Restricting access to a device includes obtaining a passphrase for a user, obtaining access credentials for the user, obtaining a PIN value for the user, one-way encrypting at least the access credentials and the PIN using a secret key provided with the device. The user is allowed access to the device if the result of one-way encrypting equals the passphrase. The user is denied access to the device if the result of one-way encrypting does not equal the passphrase. The device may be a storage device. The access credentials may include a username that identifies the user and may include a role for the user. The access credentials may include a time period for which access is allowed. Access may be subsequently revoked in response to the current date and time being greater than the time period for which access is allowed.
Abstract:
Various systems and methods for preparing, planning, creating, designing, and/or distributing media publications and processes related thereto are described herein. As just one of many examples, a system for facilitating media production is disclosed. The system includes a computer readable medium that includes instructions executable by a microprocessor to graphically portray a composition zone in accordance with a composition zone definition. Such a composition zone definition may include a location intent and a layout geometry.
Abstract:
An LED light string where the parallel connections of additional series blocks of LED lamps are added through an intermediate or junction circuit. The first half of the rectifying diode pair in the junction circuit receive the series connected LED lamps positive connection, complete the rectification of the first rectifying diode pair and couple with the parallel wires of the lighting chain, thus completing the circuit. The second diode pair contained in the junction circuit forms a second, independent circuit by coupling with the lighting chain parallel (AC) wires the join to form the series connection for the subsequent LED lamps connected in series. This circuit is completed by a subsequent junction circuit, or by the diode pair contained in or around the end plug.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for managing mobile platform fault data. The method includes automatically collecting raw fault data regarding at least one fault that occurs onboard the mobile platform utilizing a central maintenance computer (CMC) onboard the mobile platform. The raw fault data is automatically transmitted from the CMC to an onboard computer system (OCS) of the mobile platform and to a central computer system (CCS) located remotely from the mobile platform. The method additionally includes automatically generating at least one electronic mobile platform cabin (MPC) draft fault report from the raw data utilizing a first portion of an electronic logbook function (ELB1) of the OCS. Execution of the ELB1 additionally generates a MPC draft fault report notification message viewable on an OCS display and is automatically downloaded to the CCS. The method further includes automatically correlating the MPC draft fault report with the raw fault data utilizing a second portion of the electronic logbook (ELB2) of the CCS.
