    摘要: Stationary wireless network stations are woken up using Wake-on-WLAN functionality. Wake-on-WLAN is provided by paging stations in a wireless network. Paging may support mobile stations across multiple access points. Paging may also support stationary nodes with reduced overhead. Wake-on-WLAN is also provided to stationary stations in idle mode by signifying a wake-on event in a traffic indication map (TIM). Wake-on events may occur when a station is associated or disassociated with an access point. Upon receiving a wake-on event, a station associates or reassociates with an AP if necessary.

According to embodiments of the invention, the method includes determining a priority category for a multicast communication to be transmitted. The leader is assigned to transmit to the multicast communication source an acknowledgment frame indicating receipt of a multicast communication frame received from the source.

According to an example embodiment of the invention, a method is provided for generating a short beacon. The method can include generating a short beacon frame for transmission at a selectable beacon interval. The short beacon frame includes: a beacon timestamp field, a service set identifier (SSID) field, and one or more capability fields; and generating a traffic indicator map (TIM) frame for transmission at a selectable TIM interval. The TIM frame includes a TIM timestamp field, a check beacon field, and a TIM; and converting the short beacon frame and the TIM frame for wireless transmission over a hardware transmission medium.

Embodiments may comprise logic such as hardware and/or code to reduce the size of a packet by determining a frame in the MAC sublayer, inserting the frame in the signal field of a preamble to transmit, transmitting the direct MAC data frame as a packet, communicating that the packet is a direct MAC data frame, and parsing and interpreting the direct MAC data frame at the receiving device. Many embodiments comprise MAC sublayer logic to generate and transmit management frames such as beacon frames, association response frames, reassociation response frames, and probe response frames with an access category for low power consumption stations or sensor stations comprising a parameter record defining a contention window that is the earliest contention window to open amongst contention windows defined for the access categories for traffic. In some embodiments, the MAC sublayer logic may store the parameter record sets for access categories in memory, in logic, or in another manner that facilitates transmission of the frames. Some embodiments may receive and detect communications with frames comprising the access categories and store a parameter set for one or more of the access categories in a management information base.
