Abstract: A coated component of a gas turbine engine includes a substrate defining a surface, a thermal barrier coating deposited on the surface of the substrate, a region of the component where the thermal barrier coating has spalled from the substrate, a layer of environmental contaminant compositions formed on one or more of the thermal barrier coating or the region of the component where the thermal barrier coating has spalled from the substrate in response to an initial exposure of the component to high operating temperatures of the gas turbine engine, and a thermal barrier coating (TBC) restoration coating deposited at least on the region of the component where there thermal barrier coating has spalled from the substrate.

Abstract: A coating system includes a support fixture sized to be partially inserted into one or more openings of a component and a spray nozzle segment device comprising a housing configured to receive a slurry. The device is disposed radially outward of a central axis of the component and is shaped to extend circumferentially about at least part of the central axis of the component. The housing comprises plural delivery nozzles configured to spray the slurry onto a surface of the component. The device is operably coupled with the support fixture such that the fixture maintains a position of the device within the component when the support fixture is partially inserted into one or more openings of the component.

Abstract: Systems and methods that provide or restore a coating to a component are provided. The systems and methods utilized an atomizing spray device. A gas and a slurry that comprises fluid and ceramic particles are supplied to the atomizing spray device. The slurry and gas are discharged from the spray device to form two-phase droplets. The fluid within the droplets evaporates to prevent the fluid from becoming part of the coating as the droplets traverse through the air and prior to impacting the surface of the component.

Abstract: Methods for preparing slotted ceramic coatings and the resulting components comprising the same are provided. The methods and products include the incorporation of a coating system comprising a ceramic coating with cooling holes disposed throughout the ceramic coating and slots defined in the thermal barrier coating and disposed in relation to the cooling holes. The resulting ceramic coating has improved resistance to CMAS infiltration and improved compliance resulting in an increased life of the coated component.

Abstract: A sprayable thermal barrier coating powder mixture for a gas turbine engine includes: a dry composition having a low surface area ceramic powder having a median particle size distribution greater than 5 microns and less than 50 microns, and a high surface area ceramic powder having a median particle size distribution smaller than 5 microns, wherein the low surface area ceramic powder makes up at least 50% by weight of the dry composition of the sprayable thermal barrier coating powder mixture.
