Abstract:
An air compressing system is provided that includes a compressor configured to compressor air. An engine is operatively connected to the compressor. Further, an infinitely variable transmission is operatively connected between the engine and the compressor. A first shaft operatively connects the engine to the infinitely variable transmission and is configured to rotate at a first speed and a second shaft operatively connects the infinitely variable transmission to the compressor and is configured to rotate at a second speed.
Abstract:
A fan rotor of an air cycle machine includes a hub with fan blades extending from the hub. Each of the plurality of fan blades includes a main airfoil portion located distally from the hub. The main airfoil portion generally has a uniform thickness along its span. A base portion located between the hub and the main airfoil portion of each of the fan blades has a chord length that is longer than a chord length of the main airfoil portion.
Abstract:
A system, which includes a plurality of heat exchangers and a compressing device, is configured to prepare in parallel a medium bled from a low-pressure location of an engine and flowing through a plurality of heat exchangers into a chamber. The compressing device is in communication with the plurality of heat exchangers and regulates a pressure of the medium flowing through the plurality of heat exchangers. The compressing device is bypassed based on the preparing in parallel the medium for the chamber, which in turn enables the compressing device to windmill. Therefore, the system employs at least one mechanism to prevent components of the compressing device from windmilling.
Abstract:
A compressing device includes a first turbine a second turbine and a compressor. The first turbine is configured to provide a first energy by expanding a first medium and the second turbine configured to provide a second energy by expanding a second medium. The compressor is configured to receive the first energy and the second energy during a first mode of the compressing device, receive the first energy during a second mode of the compressing device, and compress the second medium in accordance with the first mode or the second mode.
Abstract:
An airplane is provided. The airplane includes a first medium, a second medium, and an air conditioning. The air conditioning system includes a first turbine, a compressor, and a mixing point. The compressor is located upstream of the turbine in a flow path of the first medium. The mixing point is a location at which the first medium mixes with the second medium. The mixing point is downstream of the compressor and upstream of the turbine.
Abstract:
A generator arrangement includes a generator and a pneumatic turbine. The pneumatic turbine is operably connected to the generator. A gas turbine engine compressor section is in fluid communication with the pneumatic turbine through a bleed air conduit to provide pressurized air to the pneumatic turbine for applying mechanical rotation to the generator.
Abstract:
An air cycle machine for an environmental control system for an aircraft is provided. The air cycle machine includes a compressor configured to compress a first medium, a turbine configured to receive second medium, a mixing point downstream of the compressor and downstream of the turbine; and a shaft mechanically coupling the compressor and the turbine.
Abstract:
An environmental control system (ECS) pack is provided including a primary heat exchanger and a secondary heat exchanger. An air cycle machine is arranged in fluid communication with at least one of the primary and second heat exchanger. The air cycle machine includes a compressor and a plurality of turbines. Discharged cabin air is supplied to at least one of the plurality of turbines to operate the compressor.
Abstract:
A system that comprises a nozzle arrangement is provided. The nozzle arrangement includes at least one nozzle configured to supply a medium at a nozzle flow rate to a fan of an air cycle machine. The nozzle flow rate provides a pneumatic power assist or a power augmentation to a fan of an air cycle machine. The power augmentation, in accordance with the nozzle flow rate, reduces a need for a flow across a turbine of the air cycle machine.
