    摘要: Teachings presented herein combine the relative simplicity of equalization with the performance of maximum likelihood (ML) processing. These teachings are applied to the detection of symbols in a stream of symbol blocks. In one or more embodiments, block-based equalization, including feedforward filtering, suppresses inter-block interference and produces detection statistics for the symbols in each symbol block, and joint detection addresses intra-block interference by jointly detecting the most likely combination of symbols within each symbol block, based on the corresponding detection statistics. The joint detection obviates the need to address intra-block interference within the equalization filters, while, at the same time, the block-based equalization produces detection statistics for each symbol block thereby simplifying the joint detection process. Overall complexity is less than would be needed for full MLSE processing of the symbol blocks without equalization preprocessing, while performance is close to or on par with full MLSE processing.

    摘要: An exemplary receiver demodulates an amplitude modulated data signal received in association with a reference signal, wherein a transmit power of the data signal is unknown to the receiver circuit, by determining a scaling factor based on the reference and data signals. Thus, an exemplary receiver estimates scaling factors indicative of the received amplitude of a data channel signal that is transmitted at a power different from that of the reference channel being used to estimate the radio channel properties. The scaling factor may be used to correct the amplitude of information symbols recovered from a received data signal such that they are moved closer in amplitude to intended points within an amplitude modulation constellation and/or to scale nominal points in a reference constellation used in demodulating the received symbols.

    摘要: Correlation times for a RAKE receiver are determined from time differentials between multipath components of a received signal based on correlation metrics, preferably signal strength measurements, associated with the multipath components. According to various embodiments of the present invention, selection strategies are employed in which “desired signal collecting” and “interference collecting” correlation times may be selected using average optimal (AO) or instantaneous optimal (IO) selection criteria. These criteria may include, for example, thresholds for signal strengths associated with multipath components of a signal at the correlation times, where the signal strengths may include absolute or relative measures of signal power or signal to noise ratio. According to alternative embodiments, correlation times are selected using an inverse filter of an estimated channel response. Related apparatus is also described.

    摘要: In a code division multiple access (CDMA) communications system, a synchronization code is transmitted on a first channel. Information is selectively communicated on a second channel, e.g., a dedicated physical channel, to limit interference attributable to the synchronization code in a signal received over the second channel. In one embodiment, a slot configuration used on the second channel reduces the likelihood of time-coincidence of the synchronization code with information transmitted on the second channel having a higher level of sensitivity to interference, such as transmit power control (TPC) commands or pilot symbols. According to another aspect, interference associated with a synchronization code is canceled from signal received on the second channel to recover information originally transmitted on the second channel. In one embodiment, an estimate of a component of the received signal associated with the synchronization code is generated from the synchronization code and a channel estimate. The estimate of the interference component is canceled from the received signal to generate an interference-canceled version of the received signal, which is then processed to recover information originally transmitted on the second channel.

When the user terminal detects the paging signal, a random reference value is derived from a portion of the paging signal, and response signal, responsive to the random reference value is generated and transmitted to the network station. When the network station receives the response signal, it compares it to an expected response value to authenticate the user terminal.

    摘要: A method and associated circuitry for initiating communication between a network station and a user terminal of a radiotelephonic communication system, such as a satellite-cellular communication system. When communication is to be initiated, a paging signal is transmitted by a network station to the user terminal. When the user terminal detects the paging signal, an acknowledgment signal is generated by the user terminal and encoded to increase the margin of the acknowledgment signal. An increased-margin acknowledgment signal acknowledging reception of the paging signal is transmitted to facilitate communication of the acknowledgment signal back to the network station.

    摘要: A method in a network node for assisting a first user equipment in interference mitigation. The network node is comprised in a cellular communications network. The cellular communications network further comprises the first user equipment and a second user equipment. The second user equipment causes interference to the first user equipment when at least one of the first user equipment and second user equipment communicate by using Device-to-Device communication. The network node obtains information about the receiver of the first user equipment. The network node then determines one or more parameters required by the first user equipment for mitigating the interference. The parameters relate to the obtained information and to the interfering second user equipment. The network node then sends the one or more parameters to the first user equipment thereby assisting the first user equipment to mitigate interference caused by the second user equipment.

    摘要: A system and method in which a base station treats the Channel State Information (CSI) from wireless terminals as only partially-stale, and exploits this partially-stale CSI to predict the current channel from old estimates of the channel. The predicted channel is then used to design a precoder. The base station shapes the transmitted signal with the precoder so as to match it as closely as possible to the current channel. Particular embodiments thus combine the benefits of the stale feedback scheme with precoding to match the channel. Consequently, the signal received at a terminal is better conditioned, thereby providing a greater overall boost in performance of the communication arrangement between the base station and the terminal. The usage of partially-stale CSI can be important for dense networks with a large number of simple terminals.

    摘要: In one aspect, the present invention improves Turbo equalization and/or soft interference cancellation processing in communication receivers by providing an efficient and accurate technique to compute the second moment of a received symbol, e.g., an interfering symbol, as a function of the expected bit values of only those bits in the symbol that are magnitude-controlling bits according to a defined modulation constellation. Advantageously, the expected bit values in at least one embodiment are computed using a LUT that maps bit LLRs to corresponding hyperbolic tangent function values. Further, the expected symbol value is computed as a linear function of terms comprising the expected bit values and the soft symbol variance is efficiently computed from the second moment and the expected symbol value squared. This simplified processing reduces receiver complexity, particularly in the context of modulation constellations having non-constant magnitudes, and thus saves power and/or improves design economics.
