    摘要: A signal processing device used for an apparatus capable of optically reproducing information from a recording medium is disclosed. In the signal processing device, a signal including information recorded at positions adjacent to a prescribed position is multiplied by k. The multiplied signal is subtracted from a signal mainly including information recorded at the prescribed position. In the signal processing device, the coefficient k is adjusted as follows. In one case, the coefficient k is varied depending on the signal strength. In another case, the processed signals are held at appropriate timings and a signal used as an index is obtained from two or more such signals. The coefficient k is optimized based on the index. In yet another case, the coefficient k is periodically varied in a synchronous manner with the fundamental period of the information recorded on the recording medium.

    摘要: An optical head device according to the present invention includes a splitting section for splitting a light beam having been reflected from an optical storage medium. The splitting section includes: a first main region transmitting a first interfering portion; a second main region transmitting a second interfering portion; and first and second sub-regions through which the first interfering portion is transmitted with a lower rate than in the first main region and through which the second interfering portion is transmitted with a lower rate than in the second main region. The splitting section splits the reflected light beam into: a first main light beam transmitted through the first main region; a second main light beam transmitted through the second main region; a first sub-light beam transmitted through the first sub-region; and a second sub-light beam transmitted through the second sub-region. The splitting section further includes a swapping section for swapping a portion of the first sub-light beam with a portion of the second sub-light beam.

The amount of light of the first or higher order diffracted beams when they are substantially focused on and reflected by a focus plane of the plurality of information recording planes is equal to or greater than the amount of light of the zero order diffracted beam when it is reflected without focusing by a non-focus plane other then the focus plane of the plurality of information recording planes. The invention provides an optical pickup head where offset is not generated in the TE signals even during tracking with the objective lens when a two-layered disk is used.

The diffraction grating includes grating patterns with a nonuniform period or phase. The size of the first-order diffracted light converged on an optical recording medium is larger in the direction parallel to a tangent to the track than in the direction perpendicular to the tangent. P1/P0>PW2/PW1 is established, where PW1 represents the power that is required to record information on the optical recording medium, PW2 represents the maximum power that allows information recorded on the optical recording medium to be reproduced without being erased, P0 represents the light amount of the zero-order diffracted light converged on the optical recording medium, and P1 represents the light amount of the at least first-order diffracted light converged on the optical recording medium. This configuration makes it possible to detect a tracking error signal with reduced offset, even if a recordable optical recording medium having two information recording planes is used.
