The method includes the steps of: a) composing a lookup table using a symmetry of a sine and a cosine function; b) changing and setting a gain of a DCO by reflecting a lookup table size in the DCO; c) transforming an absolute value of a DCO output to an integer value; d) determining a range of the integer value of the DCO output; e) searching indexes of a sine and an cosine function according to the range of the integer value of the DCO output; and f) correcting a sign of a lookup table value corresponding to the searched index of the sine function and a sign of a lookup table value corresponding to the searched index of the cosine function according to the range of integers of the DCO output.

Provided is an on-channel repeater capable of removing feedback signals based on pilot partitioning, which can efficiently remove a feedback signal by quickly coping with even a situation in which a feedback channel changes rapidly, by reducing a filter-coefficient update interval, i.e., increasing the number of times of filter-coefficient creation, through pilot partitioning, and a method thereof. The on-channel repeater includes: a receiver for receiving a signal; a subtractor for subtracting a replica of a feedback signal from the signal received in the receiver to remove the feedback signal; a replica creator for creating a filter coefficient using pilot partitioning, creating a replica of the feedback signal using the created filter coefficient, and feeding back the created replica to the subtractor; and a transmitter for transmitting an output signal of the subtractor.

Provided are a Vestigial Side Band (VSB) Digital Television (DTV) transmitter and receiver based on the Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC) A/53, and a method thereof. The present invention provides 8-VSB DTV transmitter and receiver that can improve reception performance of the receiver by transmitting and receiving robust data mixed with P-2VSB, E-4VSB, and/or E-8VSB. The DTV transmitter includes an input means for receiving a digital video data stream including normal data and robust data; an encoding means for coding the digital video data stream into data symbols; and a transmitting means for modulating and transmitting an output signal of the encoding means, wherein the encoding means performs trellis coding on the robust data by sequentially applying a plurality of trellis coding methods.

Provided is a frequency synchronizing apparatus and method that can synchronize frequencies between receiving signals and transmitting signals by extracting a carrier error and sampling timing error information in a synchronization process of the receiving signal from a main transmitter or another repeater and reflecting them in the transmitting signal in an on-channel repeater. The apparatus includes a carrier recovery means for compensating a carrier frequency error of a receiving signal; a timing recovery means for compensating a sampling timing error of the receiving signal; a carrier error reflecting means for reflecting the carrier frequency error extracted from the carrier recovery means to a transmitting signal; and a timing error reflecting means for reflecting the sampling timing error extracted from the timing recovery means to the transmitting signal. The present invention is used to form an on-channel repeating network in any transmission system including a digital television broadcasting system.

Provided is a modulation apparatus that can reduce time delay of on-channel repeaters in a terrestrial digital television broadcasting system. The time delay is caused by a filter during the modulation operation in the on-channel repeaters. The modulation apparatus of the present research includes: a baseband signal forming unit for forming a baseband signal by combining the output signals of an equalization unit with the pre-defined field/segment synchronization signals in the on-channel repeaters; a pilot inserting unit for inserting a pilot signal to the baseband signal; an up-sampling unit for up-sampling the baseband signal with the pilot signal; a VSB filtering unit for filtering the up-sampled baseband signal based on a Window technique and/or an Equi-Ripple filter to thereby form an in-phase (I) signal and a quadrature (Q) signal; an up-converting unit for up-converting the frequencies of the filtered I and Q signals to frequencies of an intermediate frequency (IF) band; an adding unit for adding the up-converted I and Q signals and converting a resultant signal into a digital VSB signal of the IF band; and a digital-to-analogue converting unit for converting the digital signal of the IF band to an analogue signal.

The method includes the steps of: selecting a desired pay event using a program guide displayed on a system of the subscriber and achieving a subscriber private key; filling out a service application based on service information, signing the service application based on a digital signature scheme and encrypting the digital signed service application; transmitting the encrypted service application to a broadcasting station and waiting a response of the broadcasting station; receiving a session key and a subscription authority message from the broadcasting station, decrypting the session key and the subscription authority message and verifying the digital signature; decrypting a channel key, achieving a control word, descrambling event audio/video streams and watching the event; and if the event is terminated or the session key is not effective, stopping watching the event and deleting the session key.
