Abstract:
Processor-implemented methods of controlling an insulin infusion device for a user are provided here. A first method obtains a current insulin on board (IOB) value that estimates active insulin in the user, and compensates a calculated insulin infusion rate in response to the obtained IOB value. A second method supervises the operation of a glucose sensor by obtaining and processing insulin-delivered data and glucose sensor data for the user. An alert is generated if the second method determines that a current glucose sensor value has deviated from a predicted sensor glucose value by at least a threshold amount.
Abstract:
Techniques disclosed herein relate to configurable target glucose values. In some embodiments, the techniques may involve modifying a glucose setpoint from a first target value to a second target value, wherein the second target value is lower than the first target value. The techniques may further involve regulating a glucose level of a patient to the modified glucose setpoint by controlling insulin delivery. The techniques may further involve after a time period has elapsed, reverting the glucose setpoint to the first target value.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are techniques related to management of insufficient hypoglycemia response. In some embodiments, the techniques may involve obtaining an amount of insulin remaining in a body of a patient. The techniques may involve also obtaining a quantity of insulin needed by the patient within a future time period. Additionally, the techniques may involve identifying a condition in which the patient's glucose level will continue to decrease during the future time period despite suspension of basal insulin dosage delivery. The condition may be identified based on determining that the amount of insulin remaining in the body is greater than the quantity of insulin needed by the patient within the future time period. Furthermore, the techniques may involve, responsive to identifying the condition, causing performance of an action for preventing the patient's glucose level from falling into a hypoglycemic range in combination with the suspension of basal insulin dosage delivery.
Abstract:
A processor-implemented method for closed-loop control in steady-state conditions includes determining, based on data including historical bolus information but excluding historical basal information, an amount of unmetabolized therapeutic substance in a patient; determining, based on a difference between a most recent measurement of a physiological condition of the patient and a target value for the physiological condition, a first amount or rate of a basal dosage for delivery to the patient; adjusting, based on the amount of unmetabolized therapeutic substance, the first amount or rate of the basal dosage to determine a second amount or rate of the basal dosage; and causing delivery of the second amount or rate of the basal dosage based on communicating the second amount or rate in a delivery command.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are techniques related to automatic real-time meal detection. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining a plurality of glucose concentration values and a plurality of plasma insulin concentration estimations, each glucose concentration value corresponding with a respective plasma insulin concentration estimation; generating an output based on applying a meal detection model to the plurality of glucose concentration values and the plurality of plasma insulin concentration estimations; and determining, based on the output, that a glucose concentration value of the plurality of glucose concentration values corresponds to an ongoing glycemic response to a meal.
Abstract:
Techniques related to temporary setpoint values are disclosed. The techniques may involve causing operation of a fluid delivery device in a first mode for automatically delivering fluid to a patient based on a first target glucose value. Additionally, the techniques may involve obtaining a second target glucose value. The second target glucose value may be a temporary target glucose value to be used for a specified period of time to regulate fluid delivery to the patient, and the second target glucose value may be greater than the first target glucose value. The techniques may further involve causing, based on obtaining the second target glucose value, operation of the fluid delivery device in a second mode for automatically delivering fluid to the patient. The second mode may be for reduced fluid delivery during the specified period of time.
Abstract:
Gesture-informed patient management systems and related medical devices and operating methods are provided. A method of assisting operation of a medical device using a sensing arrangement capable of detecting physical movement by a user involves detecting a configuration procedure performed by the user in response to output of the sensing arrangement indicative of one or more gestures with respect to the medical device by the user, determining a current state of the user within the configuration procedure based at least in part on the one or more gestures with respect to the medical device relative to a sequence of gestures corresponding to a defined sequence of tasks for the configuration procedure, and providing a graphical user interface display on a client device comprising guidance information influenced by the current state within the configuration procedure.
Abstract:
A system includes one or more processors and one or more processor-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of obtaining a first target value for a glucose level of a patient, modifying a glucose setpoint from a second target value to the first target value, and regulating the glucose level of the patient to the modified glucose setpoint based on controlling insulin delivery by an insulin infusion device.
Abstract:
Disclosed here is a computer-based device and related methodology that manages use of a dual-mode insulin infusion device. The infusion device operates in a manual insulin delivery mode or an automated closed-loop insulin delivery mode. The methodology receives closed-loop pump data for a user of the infusion device, the closed-loop pump data including data indicating basal insulin delivered by the infusion device during operation in the automated closed-loop insulin delivery mode for at least one defined period of time. The methodology analyzes the closed-loop pump data to generate updated basal rate data for the user, and generates, from the updated basal rate data, a recommendation to adjust a manual-mode basal rate setting of the infusion device. In certain scenarios, the infusion device is controlled such that the manual-mode basal rate setting is adjusted in accordance with the recommendation.
