Abstract: A network element processes a data flow in accordance with a communications protocol in which respective incremental sequence numbers are assigned to segments of the data flow. The segments are sent from the network element to the other network element in order of the sequence numbers, and respective acknowledgements are received from the other network element. The acknowledgements may include the highest sequence number of the segments of the flow that were received in the other network element. After transmitting the last segment of the data flow an additional segment is sent to the other network element. When it is determined from an acknowledgement of the additional segment that the last segment of the data flow was not received by the other network element, the last segment is retransmitted.

Abstract: An opto-mechanical coupler and corresponding method are provided. The coupler may include a first end and a second end configured to receive optical fibers and a top surface and bottomed surface defining a through hole extending between the top and bottom surfaces. The coupler may include a reflective surface that redirects the optical signals between a first direction and a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The coupler may position one or more optical fibers along a second direction such that an optical signal from the plurality of optoelectronic transceivers is directed into one or more optical fibers or an optical signal from the one or more optical fibers is directed into a plurality of the optoelectronic transceivers, with the coupler accommodating different diameters of optical fiber including POF, SMF, and/or MMF fiber.

Abstract: A method includes receiving in a network switch of a communication network communication traffic that originates from a source node and arrives over a route through the communication network traversing one or more preceding network switches, for forwarding to a destination node. In response to detecting in the network switch a compromised ability to forward the communication traffic to the destination node, a notification is sent to the preceding network switches. The notification is to be consumed by the preceding network switches and requests the preceding network switches to modify the route so as not to traverse the network switch.

Abstract: A method for communication includes configuring a multi-level fat-tree network to include at least three levels of switches, including multiple modules arranged externally in a tree topology. Each module contains a respective group of the switches arranged in an internal tree extending over at least two of the levels of the network. A subset of the modules is selected to be active in carrying the communication traffic. The network is operated so as to convey communication traffic among the switches via the active modules, while the modules that are not in the selected subset remain inactive.
