摘要： The present invention is directed to improved molded golf ball core constructions and methods for improving the molded golf ball core construction. The molded golf ball comprises a molded spherical core having a soft skin integral therewith, and a cover molded over the core. The soft skin is formed by controlling exothermic molding temperatures. A slug is placed in a mold cavity which is then closed. A steam set point is set, and steam is applied for a 25-30 minute period such that a maximum mold temperature exceeds the steam set point. In the alternative, the core surface may be softened by first immersing a slug in water prior to subjecting the slug to conventional molding conditions.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a golf ball comprising a soft core and a hard cover to produce a resulting golf ball having a reduced spin rate. In this regard, a core is provided and metal particles, or other heavy weight filler materials, are included in the cover compositions. This results in a golf ball exhibiting enhanced perimeter weighting. Preferably, the particles are included in a relatively thick inner cover layer (or mantle) of a solid, three-piece multi-layered golf ball. In another preferred version, one or more patterns of weighting material are incorporated in the ball, and most preferably along the outer periphery of the ball so that the pattern is visible along the ball's exterior. The size and weight of the core is reduced in order to produce an overall golf ball which meets, or is less than, the 1.62 ounce maximum weight limitation specified by the United States Golf Association. It has been found that the present invention produces a golf ball with an increased moment of inertia and/or a greater radius of gyration and thus generates lower spin. The golf ball of the present invention may also utilize an enlarged diameter which serves to further reduce spin rate. The resulting golf ball exhibits properties of reduced spin without sacrificing durability, playability and resilience.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a golf ball having a dual, or multilayer core component that is relatively soft and a hard cover that results in the golf ball exhibiting a reduced spin rate. The dual, or multilayer core component includes a center component and a core layer, each of which is independently formed from a thermoset material, a thermoplastic material, or a blend thereof. The dual core component is relatively soft, having a Riehle compression of at least 75. The cover is preferably formed from a high acid ionomer or a certain type of alpha-olefin such that the cover has a Shore D hardness of at least 65. The cover may be a single layer cover or a multilayer cover. The golf ball of the present invention may have an enlarged diameter which serves to further reduce spin rate. The resulting golf ball exhibits properties of reduced spin without sacrificing durability, playability and resilience.

摘要： Disclosed herein is a golf ball having a non-ionomeric cover and method for making the same. The golf ball has been treated with crosslink-inducing irradiation at levels of at least 2 megarads up to 15 megarads. The non-ionomeric resin cover is made from material selected from the group consisting of non-ionomeric acid copolymers and terpolymers, polyamides, styrene block copolymers, polyamide block copolymers and syndiotactic resins. The golf ball cover is relatively soft, having a Shore D hardness that is no more than 10% greater than a cover having an identical composition but not radiation crosslinked. The cover is superior in cut resistance and scuff resistance to a conventional cover of substantially identical composition that is not covalently crosslinked. The golf ball cover of the invention is particularly useful for improving the durability of golf balls to be struck with sharp-grooved clubs.

The game ball includes a central inflated portion and a synthetic rubber cover formed over the central inflated portion. The cover has fluorescent pigment, fluorescent dye, and/or optical brighteners incorporated therein in order to impart to the cover a reflectance of at least 75% in at least a portion of the visible spectrum. In another embodiment, reflective metallic particles are incorporated in addition to, or in place of the pigment, dye and optical brightener in order to add a glittery appearance to the ball cover. The particularly preferred game ball of the invention is a basketball, and is particularly useful at dusk when conventional basketballs of a dull orange color become difficult to see.

The dual core comprises an interior center component formed from a thermoset material, a thermoplastic material, or combinations thereof. The dual core also comprises a core layer disposed about the center component, formed from a thermoset material, a thermoplastic material, or combinations thereof. The present invention golf ball may further comprise an outer core layer that surrounds the dual core. The resulting multi-layered golf ball of the present invention provides for enhanced distance without sacrificing playability or durability when compared to known golf balls. In one preferred embodiment, the present invention golf ball includes a dual core having a center component of a thermoset material and a core layer of a thermoplastic material and a cover layer disposed about the core. The cover layer includes an inner cover layer with a Shore D hardness of 65 or greater and an outer cover layer having a Shore D hardness of 65 or less. In another preferred embodiment, the golf ball includes the previously noted dual core and a cover layer that includes an inner cover layer having a Shore D hardness of 65 or less and an outer cover layer of 65 or greater. In yet another preferred embodiment, the golf ball, as noted, includes the previously described dual core and a cover layer that includes a single outer cover layer having a Shore D hardness of from about 40 to 80. The center component of the preferred dual core has an outer diameter of from about 0.500 inches to about 1.250 inches. And, the preferred dual core has an outer diameter of from about 1.250 to about 1.600 inches.
