    摘要: A light pipe is obtained by laminating on one or both surfaces of a light-transmitting resin plate a polarized-light scattering plate having fine birefringent domains dispersed therein and hence showing anisotropy in scattering. The polarized-light scattering plate comprises a transparent film having fine domains dispersed therein comprising a liquid crystal polymer which exhibits nematic at temperatures lower than the glass transition temperature of the polymer constituting matrix of the transparent film and has a glass transition temperature of 50° C. or higher. The light pipe as a laminate may further comprise a specular reflection layer, a polarization-retaining lens and a light diffusion layer laminated thereon. The light pipe may further comprise a light source mounted at least on one side face thereof to provide a planar polarized-light source.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing a polarizer of the invention, wherein the polarizer comprises a film that comprises: a matrix made of an optically-transparent resin containing a dichroic absorbing material; and minute domains that are made of an energy ray-curable birefringent material having liquid crystalline properties and are aligned and dispersed in the matrix; and comprising a process of applying energy rays for fixing the alignment of the birefringent material having liquid crystalline properties. A polarizer obtained by the method has a high transmittance and a high polarization degree, and being able to control unevenness of the transmittance in the case of black viewing.

    摘要: A viewing angle magnification liquid crystal display of this invention comprising: at least a backlight system containing a polarization element (A) obtained by disposing a retardation layer (b) between at least two layers, included in a reflection polarizer (a), and having respective selective reflection wavelength bands of polarized light superimposed on each other to conduct collimation for a diffusion light source; a liquid crystal cell transmitting collimated lights; a polarizing plate disposed on both sides of the liquid crystal cell; and a viewing angle magnifying layer disposed on the viewer side of the liquid crystal cell to diffuse transmitted light. The liquid crystal display can realize a thin type and have a wide viewing angle.

    摘要: An optical film of the invention comprises: a complex type scattering-dichroic absorbing polarizer including a film that has a structure having a minute domain dispersed in a matrix formed of an optically-transparent water-soluble resin including an iodine based light absorbing material and a birefringent film including a transparent film formed of a solid polymer that having the characteristic nx>ny>nz, where a direction in which a refractive index in a film plane gives maximum is defined as X-axis, a direction perpendicular to X-axis as Y-axis, a thickness direction of the film as Z-axis, and refractive indices in each axial direction are defined as nx1, ny1, and nz1, respectively. The optical film has a high transmittance and a high degree of polarization, can produce high contrast in a wide viewing angle range, and can suppress unevenness in transmittance during black viewing.

    摘要: The polarizer of the present invention is a polarizer comprising a film having a structure having a minute domain dispersed in a matrix formed of a translucent thermoplastic resin including an absorption dichroic dye, wherein a transmittance to a linearly polarized light in a transmission direction is 80% or more, a haze value is 10% or less , and a haze value to a linearly polarized light in an absorption direction is 50% or more. The polarizer of the present invention is a dye-based polarizer having a high transmittance and a high polarization degree, capable of suppressing unevenness of transmittance in black display and excellent in reliability in heat resistance.

    摘要: A surface-treated film, a transparent rigid layer and a transparent relaxing layer are laminated in this order to form a transparent laminate. Particularly, the transparent relaxing layer is made of an adhesive. The dynamic storage modulus G′ of the transparent rigid layer at 20° C. is not lower than 2×108 Pa. On the other hand, the dynamic storage modulus G′ of the transparent relaxing layer at 20° C. is not higher than 1×107 Pa. The transparent laminate is directly laminated onto a visual surface side (pen-input side) of a liquid crystal panel provided as an image display panel so that the transparent relaxing layer is placed inward. Thus, a pen-input image display device is produced.
