    Abstract: An article management system includes a transport robot that transports an article and a rack robot that stores the article. The transport robot includes an input that receives a transport request that includes a request to transport the article to the rack robot, a first circuit that transmits the transport request to the rack robot and a movement mechanism that causes the transport robot to move toward the rack robot. The rack robot includes a second circuit that receives the transport request from the first circuit, a conveyor that receives the article based on the transport request from the transport robot and moves the article to a storage location, and a port where the article is transferred to the transport robot. The conveyor moves the article between one of a plurality of racks and the port.

    Abstract: The communication device can easily serve as an extended user interface such as a remote controller of a target apparatus without causing any complicated operations to a user. The communication device includes the following units. An apparatus information obtainment unit (203) obtains apparatus information from an apparatus. A position information obtainment unit (206) obtains position information of the communication device (102). An operation information obtainment unit (212) obtains operation information based on the apparatus information. A storage unit (213) stores the position information as apparatus position information indicating as a position of the apparatus, in association with the operation information. A direction sensor unit (207) detects direction of the communication device (102). A directional space calculation unit (208) calculates a directional space of the communication device (102). A selection unit (209a) specifies the apparatus existing in the directional space based on the apparatus position information and selects the operation information associated with the specified apparatus. An operation information transmission unit (215) transmits, based on the selected operation information, a control signal to the specified apparatus so as to allow the communication device to operate the apparatus.

    Abstract: An information communication method is provided for transmitting a signal using a change in luminance. The method includes determining a pattern of the change in luminance by modulating the signal to be transmitted, and transmitting the signal by a light emitter changing in luminance according to the determined pattern, wherein the pattern of the change in luminance is a pattern in which one of two different luminance values occurs in each arbitrary position in a predetermined duration. In the determining, the pattern of the change in luminance is determined so that a luminance change position in the duration is different for each of different signals to be transmitted, the luminance change position being a position at which the luminance rises or a position at which the luminance falls.

    Abstract: A gateway apparatus for allowing a plurality of apparatuses on a first network to co-operate with each other includes: a message monitoring unit which monitors messages communicated on the first network, and detects an apparatus discovery message for discovering an apparatus that satisfies an arbitrary requirement; an activation state managing unit which checks whether at least one target apparatus among the apparatuses that satisfies the requirement indicated by the apparatus discovery message is in an activated state for communication on the first network; a predicted activation time determining unit which determines a predicted activation time predicted as required to activate the at least one target apparatus; and a proxy response unit which transmits, in proxy of the at least one target apparatus, a response message including information indicating the predicted activation time when the at least one target apparatus is not in an activated state.
