Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network device such as a next generation (gNB) may identify control information for transmission on a downlink control channel e.g., a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). The network device may identify a candidate set of decoding candidates to which the control information is able to be mapped. In some examples, each decoding candidate may include one or more control channel elements (CCEs). The network device may select, from the candidate set of decoding candidates, an actual set of decoding candidates to which the control information is to actually be mapped, and map the control information into the actual set of decoding candidates. Upon decoding the control information, the network device may transmit the control information within a search space including the actual set of decoding candidates to a user equipment (UE).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A discontinuous reception (DRX) periodicity may be configured to enable monitoring of a reference signal (RS) for RLM procedures. For example, a transmitting device may configure a DRX periodicity for an RS, where the configured DRX periodicity may include a periodicity of discrete transmissions of the RS or a periodicity of a transmission window in which the RS is located. Accordingly, a receiving device may identify the DRX periodicity and monitor radio link quality using the RS based on the DRX periodicity. In some examples, the RS may be transmitted independent of control channel transmissions, and the transmitting device may configure one or more control resource sets for the RS.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for synchronization signal (SS) block and control resource set (coreset) multiplexing are described. Generally, the described techniques allow a base station to indicate, to a user equipment (UE), the location of a coreset including control information that may be used by the UE. Specifically, a base station may transmit an indication of a coreset configuration and an indication of a type of multiplexing used to multiplex the coreset with an SS block in the SS block to a UE. Accordingly, the UE may receive the SS block, and the UE may determine the location of the coreset based on the coreset configuration and the indication of the type of multiplexing used to multiplex the coreset with the SS block. The UE may then process the control information included in the coreset to identify the location of a data channel including additional system information.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to communication systems, apparatus and methods which enable or support transmitting/receiving downlink control information (DCI) carrying a downlink grant or an uplink grant. A method includes detecting a reference length based on an effective length of a downlink (DL) grant DCI and an effective length of an uplink (UL) grant DCI and calculating a length difference based on the effective DL grant DCI length and the effective UL grant DCI length. A length of a padding field in the DL grant DCI and/or the UL grant DCI is set equal to the calculated length difference such that the lengths of the DL grant DCI and UL grant DCI are both equal to the reference length. Padding bits are inserted in the padding field of the DL grant DCI and/or the UL grant DCI. Thereafter, the DL grant DCI and/or the UL grant DCI is encoded and transmitted to a scheduled entity.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for mobility procedures configured to maintain connectivity with a device, such as a user equipment (UE), when the UE moves between single-frequency network (SFN) areas. When the UE operates in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive state or an RRC idle state, the UE may utilize hierarchical mobility. As the UE moves throughout the coverage area of the network, the UE may use mobility procedures for moving between a serving radio access network (RAN) notification area (RNA) and a neighboring RNA (e.g., inter-RNA procedures), and/or procedures for moving between SFN areas within the serving RNA (e.g., intra-RNA procedures), which may include procedures for moving between tracking areas (TAs). In some mobility procedures, the UE may skip decoding a system information block. In some mobility procedures, the UE may skip reading the system information. An SFN area may be a radio access network area code (RAN-AC).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for configuration aspects of a tracking reference signal in New Radio. A base station may select a first burst duration and a second burst duration for a tracking reference signal (TRS) burst, the first burst duration being different from the second burst duration, and may transmit configuration information indicating the first burst duration and the second burst duration to a user equipment (UE). The base station may transmit a first TRS burst having the first burst duration and a second TRS burst having the second burst duration. The UE may detect the first TRS burst having the first burst duration and the second TRS burst having the second burst duration based at least in part on the configuration information, and perform resource tracking based at least in part on the detected first TRS burst and the second TRS burst.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some cases, due to blind decoding and channel estimation (CE) limits, one or more user equipment (UE) specific search sets may be pruned for blind decoding and/or CE purposes. For instance, after hashing a set of common decoding candidates to control channel elements (CCEs) within the control region, the UE specific search sets may be pruned so as to conform to the blind decode limitation, since a common search space has already occupied a portion of the total blind decode limit. Following pruning, the UE may hash the sets of UE-specific decoding candidates associated with the one or more UE specific search sets to CCEs within the control region. The UE may further prune UE specific search sets, based on CE limits, while reusing CE for overlapping hashed locations.

Abstract: A control resource region of an New Radio system slot structure may be separated into control resource sets, only some of which may be used for control transmissions. Aspects presented herein improve the efficient utilization of resources by enabling data transmission in resources of the DL control resource region and/or the UL control resource region. A UE receives an indication of a control resource set in a control resource region of a slot that may provide a control channel resource or a data channel resource and performs rate matching for data transmissions in the data channel based at least in part on the indication. The indication may be a semi-static indication, e.g., RRC signaling, of the control resource set.
