摘要： A signature transport device has a first transport section for transporting a first signature having a first lead edge and a first trail edge, and for transporting a following second signature having a second lead edge and a second trail edge. 摘要： In some process contexts it is desirable to maintain a constant strain on the web instead of constant tension. The novel system measures the caliper of the web material and adjusts the tension to achieve the desired constant strain. The caliper may be measured by monitoring the radius of the expiring web reel in connection with the angular position of the reel. The web caliper is input into a control scheme that includes an algorithm determining the appropriate tension to applied to the web in accordance with its caliper. The control scheme outputs a variable force command to a dynamic dancer which adjusts the web tension and thus sets the constant web strain. The variable force may be injected via an air cylinder, a hydraulic cylinder, a spring with a dynamic ground, or an electromagnetically driven actuator.

摘要： An apparatus for calibrating a tension transducer for a web includes a pair of nip rollers and a motor for driving at least one of the pair of nip rollers, the motor having at least one roller output being a function of at least one of a motor torque and a motor velocity. A web tension transducer roll is located upstream of the nip rollers, the web tension transducer having a tension output being a function of the actual web tension of the web. A processor receives the at least one roller output and the tension output, the processor calculating a tension correction value as a function of the at least one roller output and the tension output. Also provided is a method for calibrating a tension transducer for a web comprising the steps of running the web over a tension transducer and through nip rollers, the nip rollers being run by a motor, varying a characteristic of the motor and reading actual reference signals from the transducer as the characteristic is varied, and calculating at least one correction value as a function of the actual reference signals.

摘要： The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for flexible guiding of conveyed products (i.e., signatures) from one location to another. In order to reduce the impact forces imparted onto a conveyed product, a flexible guide is deformable when receiving a signature to increase the time interval during which collision during a signature direction change occurs. With the increase in the time interval during which the collision of the signature and flexible guide occurs, the average impact forces are reduced thereby eliminating damage to the signature.

The conveying belt comprises product grippers arranged thereon in an endless configuration. At least some of the grippers are selectively rotatable around an axis during movement of the conveying belt to allow for the signatures gripped to be converted into a leading corner configuration. If only a selected set of the grippers are rotated, a secondary stream of products may be formed.
