摘要: A system and method for demonstrating or testing operation of on-board diagnostics in a vehicle include imitating performance degradation of a vehicle hardware component and/or associated vehicle system by dynamically modifying at least one control system parameter value associated with the hardware component in response to a request to demonstrate operation of a selected diagnostic function or a specified performance degradation. Embodiments modify at least one control system parameter value associated with the input/output signal of a sensor/actuator to imitate a specified performance degradation. The diagnostics independently monitor operation of various vehicle control systems and operate to detect the degraded performance without knowledge of, or distinguishing between, whether the performance degradation was caused by an actual hardware component, or by the requested modification to the control system parameter value(s) associated with a particular hardware component.

摘要: A method for operating an engine having a variable cam timing control system, for controlling a camshaft angle in such engine. The method includes deactivating the variable cam timing system and setting the camshaft angle to a predetermined angle for a predetermined duration after failure in a sensor used to control the variable cam timing system and then reactivating the variable cam timing system after such predetermined time. The deactivating continues during the predetermined duration in the presence of a subsequent failure of the sensor during the predetermined duration. The reactivating comprises driving the cam angle to a camshaft angle established by the variable cam timing system in a predetermined manner. The reactivating occurs over a predetermined reactivation time.

摘要: An organic contaminant molecule sensor is described for use in a low oxygen concentration monitored environment. The sensor comprises an electrochemical cell, which is formed from a measurement electrode coated with (or formed from) a catalyst having the ability to catalyse the dissociative adsorption of the organic contaminant molecule, the electrode being positioned for exposure to the monitored environment, a reference electrode coated with (or comprised from) a catalyst selected for its ability to catalyse the dissociation of oxygen to oxygen anions, the reference electrode being positioned within a reference environment, and a solid state oxygen anion conductor disposed between and bridging the measurement and reference electrodes, wherein oxygen anion conduction occurs at or above a critical temperature, Tc. Sealing means are provided for separating the reference environment from the monitored environment. Means are also provided for controlling and monitoring the temperature of the cell, and for controlling the electrical current (Ip) flowing between the reference and measurement electrodes. At temperatures (Tads) below Tc, organic contaminant molecules are adsorbed onto and dissociated at the surface of the measurement electrode leading to the build up of carbonaceous deposits at the surface thereof. At temperatures (Ttit) above Tc, an electrical current (Ip) is passed between the reference and measurement electrode thereby to control the number of oxygen anions passing from the reference electrode to the measurement electrode to oxidise the carbonaceous deposits formed at the surface thereof and the formation of carbon dioxide.

摘要: A purifier is described for use in a gas processing application. The purifier comprises a chamber having a gas inlet and a gas outlet. A series of baffles are arranged in the chamber and coated with a getter material selected for its ability to react with species to be removed from a gas stream and form stable compounds. The chamber also houses a source of the getter material, which is periodically activated to refresh the coating of getter material on the baffles.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for use with thin film deposition to permit sequential deposition of discrete conformal layers onto a substrate situated within the apparatus. The apparatus includes a chamber and an outlet in substantial alignment therewith. The chamber includes an inlet to permit introduction of a pressurized gas into the chamber, and a platform on which a substrate may be placed for thin film deposition. The outlet provides an exit through which the substrate may be removed from within the chamber. The apparatus also includes a gate position within the chamber adjacent the outlet for moving between an open position and a closed position relative to the outlet. In the presence of pressurized gas within the chamber, the gate may be pushed against the outlet to provide a substantially pressure tight seal thereat.

摘要: A one piece hole saw assembly with mandrel permanently affixed to the hole saw cup. The mandrel contains a hollow shaft, a locking flange and reinforcing flange which are integrally formed as by machining. The locking flange of the mandrel mates with a locking hole or slot in the top surface of the hole saw cup. The reinforcing flange on the mandrel is welded during manufacture to the top surface of the hole saw cup. A pilot drill bit is inserted into the shaft core and welded to the shaft. The resulting product is a one piece hole saw assembly intended for use by simple insertion of the mandrel or shaft end of the pilot drill into the chuck of a conventional electric drill.
