摘要: A method and system for managing resource consumption by TCP connections. After establishing a TCP connection between two devices, such as a client and a server, the TCP connection is placed into a dormant mode when the server has no data to send to the client. Only when there is data to be sent, is the TCP connection awakened and the required resources for communication allocated for the TCP connection. This approach reduces resource usage for a TCP connection, and enables a TCP server to push information to a large number of clients.

摘要: A method and system for providing services in a network including a control point and plural UPnP devices is provided. Surrogates are used to functionally replace the original UPnP device/service functionalities without new hardware or firmware/software updates. The surrogates enable proper operation in UPnP networks where devices that implement surrogates can coexist in the same network with UPnP devices that do not. This allows updating existing device functionalities without requiring new hardware or firmware/software updates.

摘要: A method and system for access control to resources comprising consumer electronics (CE) devices in a local network such as a home network, is provided. Controlling access involves maintaining an access list in the network, wherein the access list includes information for controlling access to one or more resources in the network; receiving an access request for access to a resource in the network; and controlling access to the resource based on the access list. The resources can be one or more devices providing services and/or content. The one more devices can be one or more non-legacy devices and/or one or more legacy devices.

摘要: An eventing method and system is provided that enables resource-constrained CE devices, at home, away from home, on-the-go, or behind a firewall, to communicate through asynchronous events with each other and/or with other type electronic devices, at home or on the Internet. Further, a scalable distributed system is provided that supports asynchronous eventing over the Internet efficiently and at low cost.

摘要: A method and system for authentication between electronic devices with reduced user intervention is provided. An authentication process for electronic devices (e.g., CE devices) establishes ownership for secure communication, with reduced user involvement. Device ownership trust establishment allows secured/authenticated communication between electronic devices. The process binds a device to an owner such that the authentication only verifies the authenticity of a device, and verifies the ownership of the device to ensure authentication. This ensures that a device is a valid device that has not been tampered with, and ensures a device has a trusted owner. Ownership binding to a device can be verified and established by trusted third parties without user intervention.

摘要: A method and system for access to information using search engines is provided. A search engine is selected for executing a query based on search engine characteristic information and the query. The characteristic information for each search engine includes information representing searching capabilities of each search engine. Selecting a search engine further involves determining a similarity between the query and the characteristic information for each search engine, and selecting a search engine based on the similarities such that a search engine with the highest similarity may be selected for executing the query and returning search results.
