摘要： A tag for RFID applications and the like comprises an antenna supported on a dielectric substrate and having a first electrical length suitable for communication as a transponder. A selectively removable conductive shunt causes the antenna to assume a second electrical length which impedes transponder communication. Applications of the tag include tag-bearing products that are non-transmissive beneath surrounding packaging, and state machines that change between transmissive and non-transmissive states with selective shunting of the antenna. A method for enhancing an RFID tag for selective operation is also provided.

In a preferred application, a lottery ticket holder who has purchased a lottery ticket is encouraged to access a designated Internet site by rewarding access thereat on the condition that information visibly supported on the lottery ticket from a given drawing is input at an Internet site and a test indicates that the information so-input matches lottery numbers that were picked for that drawing. Access to predetermined Internet-based services or sites can also be had as an award to an individual for inputting an iconic code at a machine connected to the Internet if the input code tests as valid, with the code being marked so as to be usable only once. Preferably, the iconic code is input by click-selecting displayed icons one after another in an order that corresponds to that of a code provided to the individual. POS methods for code processing are also described.

摘要： A handheld appliance suitable for skin treatment and/or personal care operations comprises an applicator structure having a thermally conductive element supported so as to be exposable to controlled release of pressurized fluid within a gas-expansion chamber. The just-expanded gas causes an endothermic reaction in which heat is removed from the applicator. The applicator is usable to then draw heat energy from skin, etc. When applied to skin, a numbing effect is experienced which can ease pain associated with depilation, discomfort associated with exfoliation, be useful in treating wounds, etc.

摘要： An apparatus for applying massage, accupressure and biomagnetic therapy to a subject is provided and the apparatus includes a housing having a proximal end and a distal end; a motor disposed within the housing and having a shaft; and a magnet disposed within the housing about the shaft. The apparatus further includes a rotor rotatably supported by the shaft at the distal end of the housing. The rotor has an exterior face which is remote from the magnet and which defines a plurality of entrances, an opposing interior face proximate to the magnet, and a seat more proximate to the magnet than the interior face which is in communication with each of the entrances. Each seat is affixed relative to the rotor at one or more locations proximal to the exterior face. A plurality of metal balls are provided and which are seatable against the seat and retained within the entrances of the rotor by a magnetic field emanating from the magnet. Each ball has a center and is universally rotatable about its center. The seat is constructed and positioned so that it precludes contact of the metal balls with the magnet and counters forces applied to the balls when the apparatus applies therapy to the subject.
