    摘要: Methods and systems for improving the paging of wireless communication devices (WCDs) are introduced. A radio access network (RAN) begins transmitting a series of paging messages to a WCD, and determines that the WCD is operating on a new carrier frequency. The RAN proactively continues the series of paging messages on the new carrier frequency, without waiting for the prescribed interval between paging messages to expire. Alternatively, the RAN proactively restarts the series of paging messages on the new carrier frequency, without waiting for the prescribed interval between paging messages to expire. Both of these embodiments serve to reduce the delay involved in paging WCDs. The RAN may condition its behavior based on the WCD's profile.

    摘要: Disclosed herein is a method to condition removal of a carrier frequency from a wireless coverage area. The method involves evaluating handoff statistics for the coverage area, and applying results of past carrier frequency removal (preferably from a morphologically similar cluster) to predict a net change in hard handoffs that will result if the carrier frequency is removed. The method then involves using the predicted net change in hard handoffs as a basis to determine whether to remove the carrier frequency. The predicted net change in hard handoffs may be converted to a corresponding predicted net change in call drops, and the carrier frequency may then be removed only if the predicted net change in call drops does not exceed a threshold.

    摘要: Various systems and methods are provided to manage and operate a wireless communication system. A processing system receives an application data flow from a wireless device located in a sector of a base station. The application data flow comprises a plurality of data packets. At least one of the data packets is inspected for an attribute. Also, an application data flow characteristic is measured for the application data flow. The processing system evaluates the attribute and the application data flow characteristic against a network policy associated with the wireless device. When the attribute and the application data flow characteristic meet the network policy, the processing system provides a wireless communication adjustment notification to the base station.

    摘要: A femtocell base station determines the capacity of its backhaul connection by exchanging test packets with a test server. Based on the backhaul capacity that it determines, the femtocell base station selects a maximum forward link data rate and a maximum reverse link data rate for communications with a mobile station. The femtocell base station adjusts the forward-link rate algorithm used by the mobile station so as to prevent the mobile station from requesting a forward link data rate that exceeds the maximum forward link data rate. The femtocell base station may also adjust the reverse-link rate algorithm used by the mobile station so as to prevent the mobile station from transmitting at a data rate that exceeds the maximum reverse link data rate.

    摘要: Methods and systems are provided for utilizing the mobile-station simultaneous hybrid dual receive (SHDR) capability to improve femtocell performance. A femtocell provides service to one or more SHDR mobile stations, each having (1) a transmit and primary receive chain (T×R×0) for communicating with and via the femtocell and (2) a secondary receive chain (R×1) for monitoring a macro network, including monitoring a detected signal strength of one or more pilot channels of one or more macro-network coverage areas. The femtocell receives reports from at least the SHDR mobile stations to which the femtocell is providing service, the reports reflecting at least the detected signal strengths of the respective macro-network pilot channels. The femtocell uses the received reports for making and carrying out decisions as to whether or not to instruct one or more SHDR mobile stations to handoff to the macro network.

    摘要: A method and system is disclosed for enhanced reverse-link auxiliary pilot triggering in an access terminal. An access terminal operating in a first state in which it transmits a primary beacon signal on an air interface link to a base station and concurrently transmits a secondary beacon signal to the base station upon a condition that the access terminal transmits packets with payloads exceeding a threshold size, may receive a command from the base station to unconditionally transmit the secondary beacon signal. In response to receiving the command, the access terminal will transition to operating in a second state in which it transmits a primary beacon signal on the air interface link to a base station and concurrently and unconditionally transmits the secondary beacon signal to the base station.

An access terminal in a wireless communication system that includes a base station may operate in a first state in which the access terminal transmits a primary pilot signal on an air interface communication link to the base station, and also transmits an auxiliary pilot signal on the air interface communication link to the base station concurrently with transmission of the primary pilot signal. While operating in the first state, responsive at least to receiving a noise-level message from the base station indicating excessive reverse-link noise, the access terminal may transition to a second state in which it ceases to transmit the auxiliary pilot signal but continues to transmit the primary pilot signal.
