    Abstract: A method of maintaining a gas-turbine engine is provided. The method includes the steps of removing a conduit from the gas-turbine engine, installing a temporary oil filter in place of the conduit in the gas-turbine engine, and starting the gas-turbine engine with the temporary oil filter installed. A fan-drive gear system is also provided and comprises a journal bearing, a main oil pump fluidly coupled to the journal bearing, a main oil filter fluidly coupled between the journal bearing and the main oil pump, and an auxiliary oil pump fluidly coupled to the journal bearing. The auxiliary oil pump may be configured to supply oil to the journal bearing on startup. An auxiliary oil filter may also be installed between the auxiliary oil pump and the journal bearing.

    Abstract: A mid-turbine frame buffer system for a gas turbine engine includes a mid-turbine frame that supports a shaft by a bearing. An air compartment and a bearing compartment are arranged radially inward of the mid-turbine frame. The bearing compartment is arranged within the air compartment and includes first and second contact seals arranged on either side of the bearing. The air compartment includes multiple air seals. A high pressure compressor is fluidly connected to the air compartment and is configured to provide high pressure air to the air compartment. A method of providing pressurized air to a buffer system includes sealing a bearing compartment with contact seals, surrounding the bearing compartment with an air compartment, and supplying high pressure air to the air compartment.

    Abstract: A turbofan engine includes a fan rotatable about an axis, a compressor section, a combustor in fluid communication with the compressor section, a turbine section in fluid communication with the combustor, and a fan drive gear system including a carrier for supporting a plurality of gears. A torque frame is attached to the carrier. A plurality of connectors extends between the carrier and torque frame for securing the torque frame to the carrier. A scupper captures lubricant during gear operation and directing lubricant into a space between at least one of the plurality of connectors and at least one of the torque frame and the carrier.
