Abstract:
A collision avoidance system for use in a vehicle. The system facilitates the avoidance of other vehicles and other potential hazards or obstacles. A sensor subsystem is used to capture sensor data relating to one or more areas outside the vehicle. Sensor data is sent from the sensor subsystem to a threat assessment subsystem for generating a threat assessment from the sensor data. The threat assessment is then sent to a feedback subsystem so that if appropriate, a response is generated by the system. The response can take the form of a visual, audio, and/or haptic warning. The response can also take the form of changes with respect to the vehicle itself, such as an automatic reduction in speed. The system can incorporate user-based attributes, vehicle-based attributes, and environment-based attributes in evaluating potential threats and contemplating system responses to those threats. A wide variety of different heuristics can be applied by the system. The system can be configured to minimize nuisance alarms and accommodate distinctions between users based on user preferences, user history, and other factors.
Abstract:
A system implementing an embedded software application having at least one data type includes a first memory that stores a constant part of the at least one data type (class), a second memory that stores a variable part of the at least one data type (class), and a linking object that actively links the first memory and the second memory such that the constant part and the variable part are aggregated into the at least one data type (class). A method for implementing an embedded software application includes storing the constant part in a first memory, storing the variable part in a second memory, defining a linking object between the constant part and the variable part, and implementing the embedded software application by implementing the constant part, which is stored in the first memory, and implementing the at least one variable part, which stored in the second memory, by implementing the linking object.
Abstract:
A grommet mainly made of soft, pliable material has a flange section for sealing against a first side of a vehicle panel around an aperture through the panel. A groove separates the flange section from a conical section that tapers from the groove to a narrower tubular section for tightly fitting around a wire harness passed through the grommet. The conical section has a wider end adjacent the groove that presses against a second, opposite side of the panel when the groove receives an edge of the aperture and the grommet is seated on the panel. The conical section has a region that engages the edge of the aperture as the grommet is pulled to an installed position. A plurality of raised, hard, rigid contact pads are arranged in a circumferential row around the engagement region to provide low friction while sliding past the edge of the aperture when the grommet is pulled through the aperture. The contact pads are spaced apart by recesses that maintain the compressibility of the grommet and keep the soft grommet material between the pads from contacting the edge of the aperture during installation. Angled tabs extend from undersides of the contact pads to help secure the pads on the grommet. The contact pads are connected by a ring structure embedded in the conical section.
Abstract:
A system for actuating sequential engine function transducers such as fuel injector solenoids comprising a plurality of switch nodes equal in number to the number of cylinders of the engine. Each switch node includes a high current switch such as a transistor and an individually addressable driver circuit for causing the transistor to conduct when an address unique to the driver is received. The nodes are preferably disposed in close physical proximity to the injector solenoids. Low current address carrying lines are connected between the address generator and the individual switch drivers to activate them in sequence. Only a single high voltage high current supply line need be provided. The transducers may also be intake and/or exhaust valve actuators or spark ignition devices.
Abstract:
An automotive battery cable grounding terminal having an integral attachment appendage adapted to serve as an attachment or anchor point for a plastic cover, a secondary cable or a combination of the two.
Abstract:
A lever is attached to a power distribution module by a bracket. The lever has cam elements positioned over a conductor connected to the power distribution system within the module. The cam elements each have a rounded surface and an adjacent flat surface. The conductor is bowed away from a nonconductive supporting surface of the module. A locating pin extends from the nonconductive surface near the conductor. An eyelet terminal on the end of a power supply cable from a battery or alternator is placed over the locating pin to properly position the terminal between the cam elements and the bowed conductor. The lever is operated to rotate the cam elements. The rounded surfaces press the terminal down upon the bowed conductor, deflecting the conductor until the flat surfaces of the cam elements move into contact with the terminal and hold the lever in position. A secondary, releasable latch on the module secures the lever in a position fully connecting the terminal to the conductor.
Abstract:
A circuit and method for controlling two or more electric relays, wherein at least one of the relays are rated to handle a higher voltage level while at least one of the relays are rated to handle a lower voltage level. A controller selectively activates the relays such that the higher voltage rated relay(s) open before but close after the lower voltage rated relay(s) within the system.
Abstract:
A compass system comprises an electronic compass capable of providing a raw compass reading, at least one adjustment factor relating to a position of the electronic compass, and a compensation device selectively providing a compensated compass reading based on the raw compass reading and the adjustment factor. Further, at least one adjustment factor relating to the position of the electronic compass is defined and may be stored in a memory.
Abstract:
A grommet assembly for use in providing a weatherproof conduit for electrical and/or pneumatic lines between, for example, an automotive body structure and the interior of a door hingedly mounted on the vehicle body structure. The grommet is made of a soft material and is provided with opposed open ends, each of which receives a retainer made of a harder plastic material. At least one end of the grommet is provided with a retainer groove and opposed pairs of receptacles which create raised details on the outside surface of the grommet end structure. The retainer is provided with arrowhead-shaped protrusions which, when the retainer is properly disposed within the end structure of the grommet body, fit into and enlarge the receptacles to provide both visual and tactile indications that the grommet retainer is properly installed.
Abstract:
A reflector provides different-colored backlighting to indicia and a background field of an instrument dial. The dial is mounted on a reflector, forming an interior space. The reflector is assembled on a printed circuit board (PCB). A recessed section of the reflector has an opening exposing a portion of the PCB to the interior space. Another section of the reflector provides a short tube having an inner cavity suspended over the opening. A first group of light emitting diodes is mounted on the exposed portion of the PCB under the tube such that light from the first group is reflected through the inner cavity to light a pointer. A second group of light emitting diodes having a different color is mounted outside the tube and backlights the indicia of the dial. A gap between the exposed portion of the PCB and an end of the tube enables light to leak from the inner cavity and backlight the background field of the dial a different color than the indicia.
