摘要： A surgical scalpel assembly includes a handle having at least one attachment element and at least one guide element. The assembly also has a guard including at least one guide member configured to engage the at least one guide element of the handle such that the guard is movably connectable with the handle. The guard includes a first biased arm having a first boss and a second cantilevered arm having a second boss. The assembly also includes a blade having an attachment groove configured to engage the attachment element of the handle. The blade includes a first hole configured to receive the first boss when the blade is connected to the guard and a second hole configured to receive the second boss when the blade is connected to the guard.

摘要： A blade removal device includes positionable hand protecting members which are movable to a position relative to a base portion for preventing injury to an operator during use of the blade removal device. A blade removal mechanism is configured in the blade removal device and is accessible through positioning of the hand protecting members. The blade removal mechanism defines a plurality of blade removal chambers disposed in communication with a blade receptacle area. Each chamber defines a blade disengaging mechanism configured to remove a blade from a surgical knife handle by inserting the blade and attached handle into the chamber and withdrawing the handle from the chamber with the blade being retained in the chamber. The blade removal device is operable for removing blades while mated with a storage section or separate from the storage section.

摘要： A scalpel blade remover removes a blade from the tang of a scalpel. The scalpel is inserted in, and withdrawn from, the blade remover along the same substantially straight-line path. The blade remover has a rocker block which pivots about an axis transverse to the insertion path. When the scalpel is inserted into the blade remover, its tang pushes against a contact surface of the rocker block, causing the rocker block to pivot. A pair of legs at the other end of the rocker block apply a transverse force to the heel of the blade on either side of the tang, thereby lifting the heel of the blade off the tang. When the scalpel has been inserted far enough, a pawl drops behind the heel of the blade. The pawl strips the blade from the tang when the scalpel handle is removed. The blade remover is typically mounted in the lid of a sharps container.

摘要： An apparatus for the treatment of medical waste, including solid and non-solid materials, permits the collection of such medical waste at the point and at the time of its generation in a solid container. The contained medical waste can be subsequently transported for pulverization, decontamination and safe disposal. A separate portable processing chamber, with an integral means to treat medical waste, can be used at locations remote from its power unit for the collection of medical waste and then moved to the location of the power unit to drive the waste-treatment means within the chamber. The separate portable processing chamber includes a rotating waste treatment system that is rotatably carried within the chamber, a plurality of pivotable blades that are carried by rotatable axle pins within a plurality of slots formed in the rotating system, a ring carried by the rotating system to prevent deleterious collections of waste materials, and a plurality of baffle bars are located interiorly of the chamber for preferential treatment of soft and non-soft medical waste material during operation.
