    摘要: A safety catheter has a needle extending from a needle assembly. A needle point lock has a housing, a locking arm with a hook extending outside of the housing and a rear tab. A wheel within the housing is pushed against a ramp surface and the rear tab of the locking arm, by a spring. The needle extends through the housing and a hole or slot in the locking arm, and into the catheter. The hub of the catheter is held against the housing by the hook on the locking arm, until the needle is withdrawn into the housing, releasing the locking arm and allowing the hook to separate from the catheter hub. After the point of the needle has been withdrawn into the housing, it cannot be pushed back out as the needle slot moves out of alignment with the needle point. The needle also cannot be withdrawn from the back of the housing as the tab on the locking arm moves to allow the wheel to engage the needle with a wedging action. The catheter cannot be accessed until the needle point is withdrawn and safely locked within the housing.

    摘要: A surgical instrument sharp end foil for receiving and trapping the free end of a surgical instruments sharp such as a syringe needle, said sharp having a restrained end opposite said free end and a longitudinal axis extending between said restrained and free ends, said foil comprising a housing having a sharps receiving portion, a gripping element for engaging the free end of the chosen sharp, a wedging element for engaging the gripping element, and a biasing element for urging the wedging element and the gripping element into engagement.The wedging element is configured to communicate with the gripping element such that, upon insertion of the free end of the sharp into the housing, the gripping element exerts a force against the free end having a component which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the sharp and such that a longitudinal movement of the sharp tending to withdraw the free end of the sharp from the housing causes the component of force perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the sharp to increase so as to frictionally interfere with the withdrawal thereof.The gripping element is also provided with mechanical interference means such that a longitudinal movement tending to withdraw the free end of the sharp from the housing causes the gripping element to distort the free end of the sharp so as to mechanically interfere with the withdrawal thereof.The foil may also be provided with a sealing element to seal the tips of sharps having tubular end sections wherein residual bodily fluids may reside.

    摘要: Filtering apparatus having a housing defining an inlet and an outlet. Disposed within the housing is a plurality of filter elements constructed in tubular form and held together as a bundle of such elements. The entire bundle of elements may be removed from or inserted into the housing as a unit. Each of the tubular filter elements has a threaded fitting at each end thereof with the threads on each of the ends being adapted for mating engagement with each other. In this manner a plurality of the filter elements may be assembled in tandem form by threaded engagement of the mating ends thereof to provide the desired filter area and size for any particular application without the necessity of custom designing filter elements for each housing or application. The mating threads are formed on dissimilar non-galling metals. A header assembly is utilized to threadably receive one end of a filter element while a base assembly is adapted to receive and retain the second ends of the filter assemblies thereby holding them in a proper position internally of the filter housing.

    摘要: A safety catheter assembly holds a catheter onto an assembly housing, to prevent exposure of the point of a used needle. A needle extending from a needle assembly. A needle point lock has a housing, a locking arm with a hook extending outside of the housing and a rear tab.     摘要: A medical apparatus whose purpose it is to permanently retard future use of a medical apparatus, in particular needles, preventing accidental exposure to contaminated sharps. It facilitates the possible removal of medical devices from their respective holders, while preventing possible contaminated discharge of fluids located along the anterior or exterior walls of needles or exterior of medical sharps. This medical apparatus provides for single handed use which complies with OSHA guidelines, and its advanced design facilitates the more common shorter medical needles to which non-medical users are accustomed as well as the wide range of needles that medical professional use. This apparatus is easier to manufacture, shorter in stature that allows for its inclusion in the already overcrowded medical trays used by today's medical personnel, in particular, emergency medical technicians. An embodiment contains multiple apparatuses together allowing for safe storage of several sharps, which is a common need in emergency situations both in the field and in the hospital settings, where doctors or technicians are attempting to stabilize critical patients with multiple injections. The apparatus uses counter-opposing gripping devices with an enveloping containment member which serves both to tension the juxtapositionally aligned gripping devices and to prevent leakage of contaminated fluids from medical devices.
