摘要: A blade disarmer is provided herein. The blade disarmer includes a base member having an elongated portion, a bottom portion, and first and second walls extending from the elongated portion. A cover member is removably attached to the base member forming a cavity therebetween. The cover member includes a hinge separating a body portion and a tab. A pair of dome-shaped portions is disposed on the tab configured to assist a pair of side surfaces of the tab proximate each respective dome-shaped portion to flex laterally. A closure mechanism is disposed on the first and second walls and configured to maintain the tab in a plurality of positions. First and second protrusions extend into the cavity.

摘要: A device for the application and storage of a sharps device is disclosed here in with the ability to re-sterilize and reuse this device on multiple occasions. This device enables the user to access and store the blade in a safe manner where the chances of accidental puncture are greatly reduced. The device enables the user to store the sharps blade in the device in such a manner that will allow the user to autoclave or sterilize the storage device and the blade at the same time. The device is designed for multiple uses over a wide range of different blades, such as the myriad of surgical blades and blades used in the hobby and crafts arena using X-Acto knife style of blades. When a singular device is used for the storage, application and re-loading of sharps, the user is more familiar with the operation of the device, which leads to more comfort of the user in dealing with sharps blades. Also since the operating room has minimal space to store the necessary tools and devices, when a single device can have multiple uses it is advantageous and space saving.

An example method of counting sharps returned to a container having at least two layers of penetrable conductive material includes periodically checking a plurality of circuits formed by the first and second layers of material to determine if each circuit is open or closed, and keeping a count of the number of closed circuits.

摘要: A container holds at least one surgical implement, has a lock mechanism, and has a signature label that impedes access to the surgical implement until the correct surgical site is confirmed. A method of using the container includes the steps of confirming the correct surgical site, signing the label and removing it from the container, placing the label in the medical record, unlocking the container, removing the implement, and beginning the surgery, wherein the surgical team is forced to pause to confirm the correct surgical site before starting the surgery. Preferably, the container top may be removed and placed between the surgeon and surgical technician to define a no-hands “neutral zone” to avoid being stuck by the sharps. Also, the container preferably includes compartments for storing used sharps and/or a local anesthetic-loaded syringe, and the top may be replaced and secured for safely disposing of the sharps after the surgery.

摘要: A safety scalpel is made of a blade shield, blade, blade holder and handle. The blade holder is located in the front portion of the handle and the blade holder and handle are of integral connection structure or separate plug type connection structure. The blade is fixed in the front portion of the blade holder and the blade shield is slidably mounted on the blade holder, wherein: the blade holder is provided with a first sliding channel and the first sliding channel is provided with a first front locking channel at its front end. A deadlock channel is set in front of the first front locking channel. The blade shield may be moved further forward after use to make the first protrusion of blade shield fall in deadlock channel to enter the deadlocking state. The construction thoroughly eliminates the safety problem of reusing scalpel.

摘要: The present invention is a scalpel blade removal device comprising an opening in a wall defining a first blade guide, extending to a narrowing upward ramp bounded by left and right guide walls. A horizontal top ramp extends from the distal end of the upward ramp, bounded by left and right guide towers. A spring loaded notch device is adapted to lock behind a proximal end of a scalpel blade seated on a scalpel, where the scalpel is inserted in the opening and the blade edge is driven up the ramp to the top ramp. When the notch device is locked behind that end of the scalpel blade, the scalpel is pulled back, causing the scalpel blade to slide off the scalpel handle. A sharps container incorporates the removal device, a reinforced latch, a scalpel resting location, and needle cover removers.

The design of the device is such as to afford medical personnel the feel, weight and balance of the original metal unguarded scalpel, while maintaining safety through the shielding of the blade during non-use and the ability to dispose of the blade in a safe controlled manner. The user is able to remove the blade through the biasing action of a living hinge and have it securely attached to the shield of the device for later discharge into a sharps container, all without having to place ones hands near the unguarded sharp. The device to designed to use existing styles of blades currently available without needing costly inventories of specially created blades. This device is presented in several embodiments containing similar attributes for safety and discharge of the blade.
