    摘要: Devices and methods are disclosed for achieving control and stabilization of bone fractures in mammals, most specifically humans. Stabilization and traction is often required to support fractured bones of the arms or legs. The devices and methods disclosed herein are especially useful in the emergency or military setting. The devices utilize a collapsible, inflatable member that may be expanded and locked into position. The frame or inflatable member is fabricated primarily from polymeric materials with low radiodensity. The limb contact regions are adjustable to fit a wide variety of limb sizes and fracture locations. The traction applied by the splint is adjustable, controllable and measurable. The traction splint is sufficiently compact that it will fit in a compartment of most emergency rescue vehicles, thus making it more available for use than standard traction splints in use today. The traction splint is either a separate device or integrated into a backboard.

    摘要: An orthosis for stretching tissue around a joint of a patient between first and second relatively pivotable body portions. The orthosis includes a first arm member affixable to the first body portion and including a first extension member extending therefrom. A second arm member affixable to the second body portion is also included and has a second extension member having an arcuate shape extending therefrom. A third arm member including a third extension member having an arcuate shape extending therefrom is interposed between the first and second arm members. The third extension member is slidably connected to the first arm member and the second extension member is operatively connected to the third arm members, such that the second arm members travel along an arcuate path defined by the second extension member when the second arm member is moved from a first position to a second position relative to the first and third arm members. Furthermore, the position of the third arm member can be securedly adjusted relative the first arm member.

    摘要: An orthosis for stretching tissue that limits compressive forces on the soft tissue around a joint during movement of the joint. The orthosis includes two relatively pivotable cuff arms with a cuff on each arm. The cuffs clamp onto the body portions on either side of the joint. The pivot axis of the cuff arms is spaced from the pivot axis of the joint, so that movement of the cuff arms to extend the joint results in distractive forces being applied to the joint. The cuffs are selectively moved on the cuff arms, during extension and flexion, to provide the proper amount of distractive forces to the joint and to limit compressive forces on the joint. A mechanical advantage is gained through the use of a gear drive mechanism for transmitting to the joint the force applied by the patient. This allows the orthosis to be relatively small and light weight. The orthosis also provides a portable system for continuous passive motion therapy for a joint. The orthosis may be operated by a manual plus electric drive cycling it between extremes of motion. Provision is made for monitoring the range of motion or the force applied.

    摘要: An adjustable orthosis for stretching tissue by moving a joint between first and second relatively pivotable body portions includes a first arm with a cuff at its outer end for releasably attaching the first arm to the first body portion, and a second arm with a cuff at its outer end for releasably attaching the second arm to the second body portion. In a preferred embodiment, the flexible force transmitting element is a rope or cable and the drive assembly is a manually actuatable winch for winding the rope or cable. The drive assembly is located at a distance from the pivotal connection of the first and second arms. The orthosis is adjustable while on the limb to a plurality of different positions including at least a first position in which the joint is flexed to a relatively greater degree and a second position in which the Joint is extended to a relatively greater degree.     摘要: An orthosis for extension and flexion of a joint of a limb provides for distraction of the joint upon extension. In one embodiment, a spreading arrangement positively moves the orthosis arms longitudinally outwardly relative to each other upon rotation from a flexed position to an extended position. In another embodiment, the axis of rotation of the orthosis arms is located outwardly from the axis of rotation of the limb. Upon rotation of the arms relative to each other from a flexed position to an extended position, the orthosis arms move longitudinally outwardly because of the geometry of the orthosis. Because the cuffs on the arms are clamped to the limb segments, the limb segments are also forced outwardly, providing joint distraction. Structure is provided for limiting the amount of joint distraction and avoiding injury to the joint. The inner ends of the orthosis arms are linked together to maintain them in position relative to each other. The cuffs which attach the arms to the limb segments are adjustable longitudinally along the arms, to provide for different positions of the cuffs on the on limb, different length limbs, and the use of the orthosis on either a knee joint or an elbow joint.

    摘要: The present invention describes an orthotic back brace. The device comprises shoulder poster straps that are attached to a first waist belt. The shoulder posture straps tighten around the shoulders of the user when the user leans forward, thereby preventing the form of motion. Instead this system will force the user to bend at the knees keeping proper lifting posture.
