Abstract: Methods for controlling an orthopedic technical device having a top part and a bottom part, which are connected to each other by at least one joint device so as to be pivotable about a joint axis, and at least one attachment device with which the orthopedic technical device can be fixed to a limb are provided. The orthopedic technical device also has an actuator, which is fixed to attachment points on the top part and the bottom part and influences a pivoting of the top part relative to the bottom part, wherein the orientation of the bottom part can be adjusted relative to the limb which is fixable to the upper part.

Abstract: Actuators and methods of use are provided. An actuator may include an inner member made from an elastic material and defining a compartment for receiving an actuating fluid, the inner member being moveable in a longitudinal direction from a relaxed state to an expanded state by introducing an actuating fluid into the inner member; and an outer member made from an inelastic material and being disposed around the elastic inner member to control expansion of the elastic inner member in a radial direction, the outer member being moveable from a folded relaxed configuration to an unfolded extended configuration as the inner member moves from the relaxed state to the expanded state, wherein the movement of the actuator between the relaxed state and the expanded state causes a movement of a structure to which the actuator is attached.

Abstract: Devices manipulate a hand of a user to provide pronation or supination assistance. Embodiments include an anchor; a hand engagement member operatively attached to the anchor and configured to receive and engage the hand of the user; a force applicator having a member portion and an anchor portion opposite the member portion, the force applicator attached to the hand engagement member proximate its member portion and attached to the anchor proximate its anchor portion; and a force application mechanism attached to the anchor and configured to cause a force to be applied to the force applicator causing the hand engagement member to manipulate the hand of the user to provide pronation or supination assistance. In some embodiments, the force application mechanism includes a non-incremental rotary mechanism. In some embodiments, a flexible tethering member attaches the anchor to the hand engagement member.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are provided for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) via the stretching of an affected user's restricted muscle(s), be it the extensor digitorum communis (EDC), extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB), supinator muscle, or any combination thereof. The apparatus can comprise various adjustable straps and rigid members configured to secure the apparatus to the user's arm and hold the user's interphalangeal joints, metacarpal phalangeal joints, and wrist in flexion, the user's forearm in pronation, and the user's elbow in extension. This combination of joint positions can constitute a desired position which, when held for prolonged periods, can cause the elongation of the restricted muscle tissue. This in turn can cause relief of the user's symptoms of lateral epicondylitis.

Abstract: Embodiments may include a traction system, for example a cervical traction system for a neck of a user. Systems may include a housing assembly, plate assembly, handle assembly, and cable assembly. The housing assembly may include a drive assembly. The plate assembly may be operatively connected to the drive assembly. The handle assembly may be operatively connected to the drive assembly. The handle assembly may be configured to actuate movement of the plate assembly relative to the housing assembly. Embodiments may be configured to apply traction to the neck thereby providing a distraction distance or force to a portion of the cervical spine.
