Abstract:
A therapy apparatus to restore range of motion to joints and limbs. The apparatus is useful for elbow joints and includes a beam on which the elbow joint rests. A tension cord extends through and beyond the length of the elongated hollow beam with a handle at the distal end of the tension cord to be grasped by the user. The proximal end of the cord is pulled by the user's other hand to rotate the elbow. A ratchet clamp forming a part of the beam retains the tension on the elbow. Since it is a ratchet clamp, the cord may be freely pulled in the proximal direction to impart more tension to the elbow, but to release the tension, the ratchet clamp must be disengaged manually. The beam has segments that are telescopically extendable and retractable to accommodate limbs of different lengths and for portability and storage.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention relate to a medical roller device. The medical roller device includes a shaft having a first end and a second end opposite the first end; a roller rotatably connected to the first end of the shaft; and a securement mechanism connected to the second end of the shaft.
Abstract:
An exercise training apparatus 10 attached to a trainee who performs a body exercise training, includes movable bodies 11, 12, actuators 13, 14, change detecting means 15, 16 and a controlling means 25, the movable bodies 11, 12 having fixed members 11a, 12a which a part of a trainee's body is fixed to and exercising a trainee's extremities by rotating around shafts 19, 22, respectively, the change detecting means 15, 16 each detecting a physical quantity that changes depending on force applied to the fixed members 11a, 12a by a trainee, the controlling means 25, in response to a detection of a predetermined change in a physical quantity by the change detecting means 15, 16, driving the actuators 13, 14, rotating the movable bodies 11, 12 in a first direction and successively rotating the movable bodies 11, 12 in a second direction opposite to the first direction.
Abstract:
A lower extremity mobilizer for use in rehabilitation is provided. A seat is slidably maintained upon a base, with a foot support brace being provided at an end of the base to receive the foot of a leg provided for arthrokinematic treatment. A cord and pulley system is provided between the seat and the end of the base. In use, a patient is seated with a foot received by the foot support brace. The patient provides arthrokinematic motion to his leg by pulling himself and the seat toward the end of the device having the foot support brace. The procedure is undertaken in a closed chain motion, with the foot constantly engaging the foot support brace, and is done so as a rate, timing and extent under the control of the patient.
Abstract:
A calf stretching device that helps to increase flexibility, improve posture, and promote rehabilitation of lower leg injuries. The device generally includes a wedge-shaped central ramp having two contiguous sections of different lengths joined end-to-end to define a triangular ramp. The long section is defined by two planar surfaces inclined together along at a centerline at an outside angle of approximately 210 degrees. A pair of opposing substantially triangular side panels flank the central ramp and protrude outward beyond the long section and short section to align the feet and stabilize the device. A built in adjustable flip-out riser may be included for more ramp inclines. The device seats atop a door frame and can be used In two orientations, one that ramps up at 25-35 degrees and a second at 55-70 degrees.
Abstract:
A rolling footrest is provided and a method of using such by a wheelchair occupant. The footrest may optionally include a foot retainer, a platform and freely rolling castors. In some embodiments, replacing a fixed footrest will shorten the length of the wheelchair enabling the wheelchair to traverse sharp curves. In some embodiments, the footrest may include a swivel lock and/or a ratchet. In some embodiments the footrest may be used for therapeutic exercise. In some embodiments, the footrest may be used for propelling a wheelchair.

Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a rehabilitative training device for use with a stroke patient includes a first component that is operatively coupled to a first body part (unaffected body part) of the patient and a second component that is operatively coupled to a second body part (affected body part) of the patient. The first component and second component are operatively coupled to one another such that motion of the first component as a result of movement of the first body part by the user causes the second component and second body part to move in a symmetrical motion.
Abstract:
A transportable apparatus for performing cardiovascular training, including: an exercise device that is adapted to enable a user to perform a specific motion pattern; an ergometer that provides an indication of the amount of work performed by the user of the exercise device; an alarm system that provides an indication to the user responsive to the readings of the ergometer; wherein the alarm system is preprogrammed to provide indications responsive to one or more readings of the ergometer based on the results of a cardiorespiratory exercise test performed on the user with the exercise device.
