摘要: A system for embossing and crimping a plurality of sheet material web layers, including a first, second and third roll. The first roll including at least one element extending radially therefrom. The second roll has a resilient surface that engages the element to form a first nip therebetween. The third roll has a non-resilient surface that engages the element to form a second nip therebetween. In a preferred embodiment, the first roll includes at least a first and second element extending radially therefrom, with the first element having a greater radial height than the second element, which avoids contact with the third roll. The layers of sheet material web are embossed by the first and second elements as they are passed through the first nip, and are crimped together by the first element as they are passed through the second nip. In a preferred embodiment, the first roll includes a plurality of first and second elements arranged in a pattern.

摘要: A method and apparatus for pinch perforating multi-ply web material to increase the perforation ply bond and/or perforation ply bond retention by pinching the multiple plies of web material together and then perforating the material using an anvil and perforator blade design provided on a perforating apparatus. Specifically, the apparatus comprises a roll mounted contoured perforator blade which cooperates with a beveled anvil to produce perforation ply bonds perpendicular to the length of the multiple plies of web material. The desired anvil/perforator blade interface angle between 0.degree. and 20.degree. is provided by beveling the anvil. A 15.degree. beveled anvil is preferred to provide a 5.degree. anvil/perforator blade interface angle. By pinching and bonding the leading edges and other predetermined points of the multi-ply tissue paper together before cutting, the likelihood of ply separation, missing plies and ply mismatch is greatly reduced.

摘要: A gear-like stitching assembly adapted for use in a converter mechanism of the type providing for the production of pad-like cushioning dunnage product from sheet-like stock material which is conventionally disposed in multi-ply, roll form for use with the converter mechanism. The stock material is pulled from the stock roll by the converter and the lateral edges of the stock material are rolled inwardly prior to being formed into the pad-like product. The stitching assembly comprises a pair of rotatable gear-like members adapted to be disposed in coacting, meshed condition, and to stitch confronting and generally abutting rolled edge portions of the sheet-like stock material together by coining, as the latter rolled edge portions pass between the members. The teeth of at least one of the members have projections extending outwardly thereform, for perforating the stock material along the central coined section of the pad-like product, to aid the coined section in maintaining the product in its pad-like form. A novel method is also disclosed.

摘要: A multi-part form assembly, including a plurality of superimposed webs, is divided by cross perforations into a series of connected separable form parts, each web including at least one edge section defined by a longitudinal perforation extending lengthwise of the webs spaced inward from an edge of the webs and the edge sections has line holes therethrough. The improvement comprises the webs being connected at the edge sections by lines of adhesive arranged alternately on opposite sides of the line holes and each of the edge sections having pairs of nonintersecting cuts located on opposite sides of each hole. The cuts extend in one direction toward the next hole and in the opposite direction outward of the next hole, defining pairs of connecting strips which allow limited separation and flexing of the webs. Also disclosed are an apparatus and method of making such a form assembly.

摘要: Successively connected business forms are produced by feeding a plurality of paper webs and interleaving carbon webs from corresponding supply rolls into overlying relation and gluing together corresponding longitudinal edge portions of the webs. Lines of cross-perforations are formed in the overlying webs at longitudinally spaced intervals, and the edge portions of the webs are bonded or welded together across or adjacent each line of cross-perforations by a plurality of transversely extending impressions of intermeshing fibers which prevents relative longitudinal shifting of the webs when the webs are zig-zag folded before the glue sets. Preferably, the impressions are located at the fine longitudinal glue lines joining the paper webs to provide fast drying of the glue.
