    摘要: A water survival system and a method are disclosed for detecting the danger of a person drowning in a body of water. The water survival system includes a breast belt and a life jacket. The breast belt has at least one physiological condition sensor affixed thereto while the life jacket has an expandable chamber connected to a compressed gas supply via an activating mechanism. As the compressed gas enters the expandable chamber, the life jacket increases in buoyancy. The life jacket also has a water contact sensor, a global positioning system device, first and second body orientation sensors, a transmitter which is capable of sending a signal to a remote receiver, and a control unit capable of receiving real time signals from each of the sensors and evaluating and comparing the real time signals against corresponding ranges of preset acceptable values to determine if the person wearing the life jacket is in danger of drowning. The control unit is capable of forwarding a signal to both the activating mechanism and to the transmitter when a signal from the water contact sensor indicates the person is in the water and the real time signals from the other sensors are outside of corresponding ranges of preset acceptable values. The signal to the activating mechanism opens the compressed gas supply while the signal to the transmitter is relayed to the remote receiver which sounds an audible alarm.

    摘要: A passive security system and personal equipment on vessels is for man over board situations. The personal equipment, prepared for being worn by a crewmember of the vessel, includes a first module (2) integrated into a belt (4); a life jacket (5) folded inside of the first module (2) and attached thereto by at least one strap (6); a second module (8) placed in the interior of the first module (2), connected to the life jacket (5) and configured to inflate the life jacket (5) when it detects a man over board situation. The first module (2) has on its rear part one flap (3) configured to be opened by the life jacket (5) inflating action, allowing the passage thereof to the exterior of the first module (2). It is used as a passive security element for “man over board” situations, to allow an immediate detection of the situation and a fast rescue.

    摘要: A warning system is provided, which is particularly useful as a person overboard warning system. The system comprises a trigger part, worn by a crew member, which emits a signal on immersion in water. This is received by a receiver part on the vessel and automatically causes a transmitter part, also on the vessel, to send a further warning signal to one or more other locations remote from the vessel. These remote locations may be other vessels or land based sites, for instance operated by the coastguard or other rescue agencies. The automatic nature of the onward transmission of the signal received by the vessel makes the system particularly suited to single handed sailors.

    摘要: An actuator, which find exemplary use in connection with a safety system which aims to stop powering of a boat by an engine or sail if a person falls overboard. The actuator stores energy in a main spring which is manually created by pushing linearly on an actuator rod which extends from the actuator housing. The main spring is captured between two concentric sleeves one of which sleeves is fixed to the housing. A low power coil is energizes a magnetic shuttle to cause linear motion of a shuttle against urging of small spring contained within the bore of the shuttle. Movement of the shuttle enables radial motion of balls from a position where the sleeves are locked together to one which enables one sleeve to move under force of the main spring, and thereby move the push/pull rod and act on an object to which the actuator is connected.
