Abstract:
Methods and systems for cleaning a capless refueling system in a vehicle are disclosed. In one example approach, a method comprises, in response to a leak detected following a refueling event, cleaning the capless refueling system using engine vacuum.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for identifying leaks on each of a fuel tank and a canister side of a fuel system using a single leak check module. A position of a switching valve coupled in the vapor line of the fuel system is adjusted to selectively couple the leak check module to either the fuel tank or the canister. Leak is detected based on a change in pressure at a reference orifice of the leak check module following applying of vacuum from a vacuum pump.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring for a rupture in a storage element of a fuel tank system having a fuel tank includes: detecting, by a mass flow sensor, thermal conductivity of an unmoved air mass in a first line of the fuel tank system; and identifying a rupture in the storage element if the detecting by the mass flow sensor detects a change in the thermal conductivity of the unmoved air mass in the first line when a second valve is in a closed state and/or when an air pump is at a standstill.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for a canister purge valve. A method comprises rotating an armature within a valve body in the canister purge valve as the canister purge valve opens and closes during a purge operation. The armature is encircled at a first end by an elastomer seal with multiple angled wings that enable rotation of the armature about a central longitudinal axis during the purge operation.
Abstract:
An evaporative system is for an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine has an intake pipe equipped with a supercharger to pressurize intake air. The evaporative system includes an ejector, an ejector passage, and a pressure sensor. The ejector is to draw intake airflow from a downstream of the supercharger to an upstream of the supercharger to cause a negative pressure to draw fuel vapor into the upstream of the supercharger. The ejector passage is branched from the downstream of the supercharger and is returned through the ejector to the upstream of the supercharger. The pressure sensor is communicated with the ejector passage to detect pressure in the ejector passage.
Abstract:
A system according to the present disclosure includes a valve control module, a purge fraction module, and a diagnostic module. The valve control module opens a purge valve in an evaporative emissions system to allow purge vapor to flow to an intake system of an engine. The purge fraction module determines first and second fractions of purge vapor delivered to the engine relative to a total amount of air and purge vapor delivered to the engine based on first and second inputs, respectively. The first input is from a hydrocarbon sensor disposed in the evaporative emissions system of the engine. The second input is from an oxygen sensor disposed in an exhaust system of the engine. The diagnostic module selectively diagnoses a fault in at least one of the evaporative emissions system and the hydrocarbon sensor based on the first and second purge fractions when the purge valve is open.
Abstract:
A method for a vehicle, comprising: initiating an engine-off natural vacuum test based on an ambient temperature change potential over a testing duration. The ambient temperature change potential may be based on historic weather data and further based on forecast weather data. In this way, the engine-off natural vacuum test may be executed only when conditions favor an in-tank temperature change significant enough to cause a threshold change in fuel tank pressure, thus reducing the number of aborted tests and increasing the test's overall performance metrics.
Abstract:
A fuel tank is disposed between a head pipe and a rider's seat of a motorcycle. A combustion engine is disposed below the fuel tank, and a canister is disposed between the head pipe and the fuel tank. A check valve is disposed on a communication pipe unit which connects the canister and an air intake passage. Both ends of the first communication pipe are supported by the combustion engine through a throttle body and the check valve, respectively.
Abstract:
A portion of a fuel system of a vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle includes a motor-generator-starter connected to an engine. The fuel system includes a fuel tank connected to the engine. The portion of the fuel system includes an evaporative emissions system and an evaporative emissions leak check system connected to the evaporative emissions system. The evaporative emissions leak check system includes a vacuum source. The vacuum source includes the motor-generator-starter connected to the engine. The motor-generator-starter actuates the engine when the vehicle is operated in a non-moving, keyed-off condition for creating a vacuum within an intake manifold of the engine. A method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for diagnosing a fuel tank vent valve of a motor vehicle. In the method it is inferred, from a curve of a pressure p over time in a sub-chamber of the motor vehicle after a start-up of an internal combustion engine of the motor vehicle, as to whether the fuel tank vent valve is jammed open. The sub-chamber contains a fuel tank of the motor vehicle and is delimited by the fuel tank vent valve.
