摘要:
A common control circuit is disclosed for controlling bypassing relays to disconnect telephone line auxiliary circuits from their respective lines preparatory to line testing or for other desired purposes. The control circuit responds to a bypass request signal applied to a line by operating an associated bypassing relay and by activating a timing circuit. The timing circuit and other circuitry cooperate to hold the bypassing relay operated for a time interval sufficient for fulfilling the purpose of the bypass. For serving a bypass request received while another request is being served, the appropriate bypassing relay is operated when the subsequent request is received and the timing circuit is reactivated to insure a sufficient test time for the subsequent request. All operated bypassing relays are held operated until the expiration of a time interval during which no new bypass requests are received. The control circuit includes monitoring circuitry operative to detect selected internal and external failure conditions.

A telephone loop extending circuit for aiding central office battery. Each voltage insertion circuit includes the following: First and second pairs of terminals, first and second voltage sources, first and second transistors having base electrodes and emitter-collector electrode circuits. First sides of the first and second voltage sources, of opposite voltage polarity, are coupled to a first terminal of the corresponding pair. One side of the emitter-collector electrode circuit of each of the transistors is coupled to a second terminal of the corresponding pair. The other sides of the emitter-collector electrode circuits of the first and second transistors are individually coupled to second sides of, respectively, the first and second voltage sources. First and second optical coupling means are provided for the first and second transistors, respectively, each for sensing current flow between terminals of a pair and each being responsive to current flow in one of two opposite directions between terminals for enabling the corresponding transistor to couple the corresponding voltage source to the second terminal of the corresponding pair. A bypass capacitor is coupled from one terminal to the other of the corresponding pair for passing selected signals around the transistors and voltage sources from terminal to terminal. A resistor is coupled from the base electrodes of both transistors to the first sides of the voltage sources and is operative in combination with at least one of the transistors for providing a discharge path for the bypass capacitor after an externally applied signal is removed from terminals of the corresponding pair.

A circuit for increasing the magnitude of subscriber line current flow in a variety of types of telephone systems. A voltage booster network is connected in series with at least one conductor of a subscriber line. Each voltage booster network includes circuitry for conducting subscriber line current in first and second directions therethrough. D-C boost voltage supply means is connected to each booster network to additively increase the flow of subscriber line current therethrough. Each voltage booster network includes control circuitry which causes that network to exhibit a boost voltage-line current characteristic having a low current region wherein substantially no boost voltage is produced allowing accurate line testing therethrough, a middle current region wherein the boost voltage increases substantially linearly with line current affording pulse adjustment and a high current region wherein the boost voltage remains substantially constant with line current to provide voltage boosting which is stable with respect to variations in line current. Each voltage booster network also includes time-delay circuitry which slows the dynamic response of the circuit of the invention to prevent the latter from increasing the amplitude of the transient currents which accompany telephone system polarity reversals and thereby reduce the probability of premature ring-trip or other undesirable relay operation.

The invention includes a circuit for additively increasing the d-c operating voltage of long subscriber lines in telephone systems utilizing reverse battery supervision. A plurality of switching circuits are disposed in series with respective conductors of a subscriber line to maintain voltage booster sources in series, power-aiding relationship between a central office battery and a long subscriber line. The circuit of the invention also prevents the voltage booster sources from increasing the voltage which the central office battery applies to the long subscriber line when the long subscriber line is open-circuited at the subscriber station as, for example, during dial pulse interruptions. This assures that the voltage boosting circuitry can increase the level of current flowing through the long subscriber line without impairing the dialing characteristics of that line.

A long line adapter circuit employable with telephone lines used to connect a central office to either normally or abnormally distant subscriber facilities is disclosed. The adapter circuit, which may be physically situated at a central office or at a midplacement point between a central office and a subscriber facility, includes a subscriber loop circuit and a central office loop circuit which are inductively coupled through a line coupling transformer to provide audio coupling between the central office lines and the subscriber lines. The subscriber loop circuit includes a pulsing relay circuit which responds to a receiver being placed in an off-hook condition and to dial pulses generated by a subscriber. A high pass filter is employed to attenuate battery noise due to voltage surges created by the operation of the pulsing relay circuit. Also included is a regulator circuit for preventing saturation of the transformer and for providing current limiting when the adapter circuit is used for short subscriber''s lines. The central office loop circuit includes a ringing detector circuit for sensing AC ringing signals transmitted from a central office and a switching circuit which is controlled by an out-pulsing relay circuit. The switching circuit serves to complete or close the central office loop circuit on both outgoing and incoming calls, and to discontinue the application of ringing signals to a subscriber facility on incoming calls.

This disclosure describes a telephone subscriber loop range extender having a signaling mode and a transmission mode. In the former, a resistive shunt is applied across the loop with each dial pulse to aid operation of the pulsing relay for an originating cell. For a terminating call, the shunt is applied upon answer, either during ringing or during the silent interval, to aid operation of the ring-trip relay. In the transmission mode, voice frequency gain and greater transmitter voltage are applied to the loop. A control circuit consisting of logic, timing and relay driving circuits, acts upon loop voltage and current data to control shunt action and mode selection.

A circuit for providing a unidirectional DC output voltage from a reversible DC input voltage (for example, talking power in a telephone circuit) and for providing an AC output voltage (for example, ringing power in a telephone circuit) from an AC input voltage. A plurality of diodes are connected in a rectifying configuration between a pair of input terminals and a pair of output terminals when a mode control circuit is in a first operative state in the absence of an AC voltage at the input terminals. A controllable switching network is connected in series with each diode to control the conduction thereof in accordance with the polarity of the voltage at the input terminals. This prevents the uncontrolled conduction of the diodes when the DC voltage at the input terminals is less than the voltage of a DC source which may be connected in series with the output terminals. An AC voltage sensing circuit changes the operative state of the mode control circuit when an AC voltage appears at the input terminals. This change in state causes the mode control circuit to reconnect the diodes in a nonrectifying configuration between the input and output terminals and thereby permit the free flow of an AC current therebetween.

A voltage booster circuit for telephone systems utilizing reverse battery supervision. First and second switches control the connection of respective auxiliary sources in series between a central office battery and a subscriber circuit. The conduction of said switches are controlled in accordance with the polarity with which the central office battery is connected to the subscriber circuit to connect between the central office battery and the subscriber circuit that auxiliary source which is in power-aiding relationship to the central office battery. The conduction period of one of the switches is made to predominate over the conduction period of the other during dialing and ringing so as to facilitate the transmission of dial pulses and the generation of a DC boost for energizing a trip relay during ringing.
