摘要:
The disclosed circuit limits the rate of change of voltage across two series-connected, alternately-conducting switching components. Capacitors are connected across each of two seriesconnected switching components, e.g., thyristors, to limit the rate of change in voltage across each switching component. When both switches are non-conducting, the capacitor which is connected across the last conducting switch is charged at a rate which is less than the critical rate of change of forward offstate voltage for that switch. This prevents the rate of change of voltage across that switch from turning on that switch prematurely. In addition, the capacitor which is connected across the next conducting switch is discharged to establish a relatively low voltage thereacross. This prevents that capacitor from establishing a current which would damage the next conducting switch upon the turn on thereof.

A circuit for preventing reverse voltage breakdown in the thyristors of center-tapped source inverters. A plurality of clamp diodes are utilized to limit the reverse voltage across inverter thyristors in the presence of the voltage spikes produced by the inductances of the inverter during commutation. The reverse voltage is limited to a value low enough to protect the thyristors from reverse voltage breakdown and yet high enough to assure a relatively short reverse recovery time.

A circuit for increasing the amplitude of signals transmitted through a two-wire transmission line. Amplifying voltage generating means generates and introduces in series with the transmission line an amplifying voltage that varies in accordance with the signal voltage across the transmission line. Amplifying current generating means generates and introduces in shunt with the transmission line an amplifying current that varies in accordance with the signal current through the transmission line. Gain control means varies the ratio of amplifying voltage to signal voltage and the ratio of amplifying current to signal current, as a function of frequency, to provide frequency compensated gain and impedance matching for each frequency in the band of frequencies to be transmitted through the transmission line.

A circuit for increasing the magnitude of subscriber line current flow in a variety of types of telephone systems. A voltage booster network is connected in series with at least one conductor of a subscriber line. Each voltage booster network includes circuitry for conducting subscriber line current in first and second directions therethrough. D-C boost voltage supply means is connected to each booster network to additively increase the flow of subscriber line current therethrough. Each voltage booster network includes control circuitry which causes that network to exhibit a boost voltage-line current characteristic having a low current region wherein substantially no boost voltage is produced allowing accurate line testing therethrough, a middle current region wherein the boost voltage increases substantially linearly with line current affording pulse adjustment and a high current region wherein the boost voltage remains substantially constant with line current to provide voltage boosting which is stable with respect to variations in line current. Each voltage booster network also includes time-delay circuitry which slows the dynamic response of the circuit of the invention to prevent the latter from increasing the amplitude of the transient currents which accompany telephone system polarity reversals and thereby reduce the probability of premature ring-trip or other undesirable relay operation.

The invention includes a circuit for additively increasing the d-c operating voltage of long subscriber lines in telephone systems utilizing reverse battery supervision. A plurality of switching circuits are disposed in series with respective conductors of a subscriber line to maintain voltage booster sources in series, power-aiding relationship between a central office battery and a long subscriber line. The circuit of the invention also prevents the voltage booster sources from increasing the voltage which the central office battery applies to the long subscriber line when the long subscriber line is open-circuited at the subscriber station as, for example, during dial pulse interruptions. This assures that the voltage boosting circuitry can increase the level of current flowing through the long subscriber line without impairing the dialing characteristics of that line.

A circuit for providing a regulated a-c or d-c output voltage from an unregulated a-c input voltage. A series regulating network is disposed between the regulator input and the regulator output to support the difference between the unregulated input voltage and the regulated output voltage. A shunt regulating network is connected between the series regulating network and the regulator output to generate a plurality of regulating waves which, together with the input voltage, control the current through and voltage across the series regulating network. Output voltage sensing circuitry controls the phase angle between the input voltage and the regulating waves, as required, to establish and maintain the regulated output voltage.

A circuit for providing an output pulse train which has a variable frequency when the circuit operates in a first mode and for providing an output pulse train which has a fixed, precise frequency when the circuit operates in a second mode. A fixed frequency pulse generator applies a pulse train having a fixed frequency to one input of a pulse frequency modifying circuit. A variable frequency pulse generator applies a pulse train having a variable frequency to another input of the pulse frequency modifying circuit. When the latter circuit operates in its first mode, the state of the voltage at the circuit output is controlled in accordance with both the fixed and variable frequency input pulse trains and the output pulse train reflects the algebraic sum thereof. When, however, the circuit operates in its second mode, the effect of the variable frequency input pulse train is suppressed and the output frequency is controlled solely in accordance with the frequency of the fixed frequency pulse generator.

A circuit for providing a unidirectional DC output voltage from a reversible DC input voltage (for example, talking power in a telephone circuit) and for providing an AC output voltage (for example, ringing power in a telephone circuit) from an AC input voltage. A plurality of diodes are connected in a rectifying configuration between a pair of input terminals and a pair of output terminals when a mode control circuit is in a first operative state in the absence of an AC voltage at the input terminals. A controllable switching network is connected in series with each diode to control the conduction thereof in accordance with the polarity of the voltage at the input terminals. This prevents the uncontrolled conduction of the diodes when the DC voltage at the input terminals is less than the voltage of a DC source which may be connected in series with the output terminals. An AC voltage sensing circuit changes the operative state of the mode control circuit when an AC voltage appears at the input terminals. This change in state causes the mode control circuit to reconnect the diodes in a nonrectifying configuration between the input and output terminals and thereby permit the free flow of an AC current therebetween.

A voltage booster circuit for telephone systems utilizing reverse battery supervision. First and second switches control the connection of respective auxiliary sources in series between a central office battery and a subscriber circuit. The conduction of said switches are controlled in accordance with the polarity with which the central office battery is connected to the subscriber circuit to connect between the central office battery and the subscriber circuit that auxiliary source which is in power-aiding relationship to the central office battery. The conduction period of one of the switches is made to predominate over the conduction period of the other during dialing and ringing so as to facilitate the transmission of dial pulses and the generation of a DC boost for energizing a trip relay during ringing.

A circuit for providing a regulated square wave output voltage and a regulated DC output voltage or both. An AC source energizes a switching circuit, having a variable switching rate, which connects a capacitor in voltage clamping relationship to an AC load for both half cycles of the AC voltage thereacross. This switching rate is controlled in accordance with the time accumulation of an electrical quantity, in the present instance the voltage across the AC load. The DC voltage across the capacitor attains a predetermined equilibrium value when the frequency of the AC output voltage is equal to the frequency of the AC source. If the DC capacitor voltage and the AC output voltage derived therefrom deviate from their equilibrium values, as, for example, because of a change in the level of load current, there occur transient changes in the switching rate of the switching circuit which result in changes in the phase displacement between the AC input voltage and the AC output voltage. This phase displacement controls the voltage across an inductor which, in turn, controls the flow of a current which restores the DC capacitor voltage and the amplitude and frequency of the AC output voltage to the desired values while supplying the required power to the AC and DC loads.
