Abstract:
A novel data communication device includes a switching mechanism, a detector, a storage, a measuring unit, a comparator, and a controller. In at least one embodiment, the switching mechanism is configured to connect and disconnect a facsimile device to and from a communication line used in common by the data communication device and the facsimile device. The detector is configured to detect an off-hook state of the facsimile device. The storage is configured to store a delay time. The measuring unit is configured to measure a reference time and a dialing detection time. The comparator is configured to compare the reference time and the dialing detection time. The controller is configured to enable or disable a facsimile priority function depending on whether or not the reference time and the dialing detection time are substantially equal to each other.
Abstract:
The facsimile forms an image based on an image data received through a communication and allows registration of a telephone number specifying a calling device. In the facsimile, the telephone number of the calling device is detected at the time of calling and is referenced to a registered telephone number. If the telephone number of the calling device is registered for reception rejection, the received image data will be discarded, an error signal indicating the reception rejection will be transmitted, or the telephone circuit will not be connected.
Abstract:
A facsimile unit performs a facsimile reception operation of responding to a calling signal automatically and receiving transmitted facsimile data. A telephone unit performs a telephone reception operation of responding to a calling signal only after an operator responds to rings generated so that an operator may conduct a telephone conversation through the facsimile apparatus. A presuming unit presumes whether or not an operator is present based on certain obtained information. A selecting unit allows the facsimile unit to perform the facsimile reception operation and prevents the telephone from performing the telephone receiving operation if the presuming unit presumes that there is no operator. The selecting unit prevents the facsimile unit from performing the facsimile reception operation and allows the telephone to perform the telephone receiving operation if the presuming unit presumes that there is an operator.
Abstract:
A system for controlling data transmission comprises at least two control devices, a first common communication line to which each of the at least two control devices is connected, and a plurality of operation devices for carrying out respective processing operations. Each of the at least two control devices is connected with a different one of the plurality of operation devices and is provided with a priority rank depending on the one of the operation devices connected thereto. And each of the at least two control devices comprises: (i) a memory for storing at least one of command data and status data corresponding to the one of the operation devices connected thereto, (ii) a priority rank discriminator for discriminating whether a right to transmit data is requested by another one of the control devices having a higher priority rank, and (iii) a transmitter for transmitting the data stored in the memory to the first common communication line only if the priority rank discriminator discriminates that the right to transmit data has not been requested by another one of the control devices having the higher priority rank.
Abstract:
A facsimile machine is disclosed which can selectively set one of a plurality of receiving modes, such as a facsimile mode and a telephone mode, and is equipped with a power saving function. A facsimile machine equipped with a power saving function has a waiting state where only portions of the facsimile machine receive operating power and includes a receiving mode setting part for setting a message receiving mode, and a power saving control unit for determining whether or not a predetermined signal, associated with a set mode as a power saving reset signal is received and, if so, for resetting the power saving state, whereby power is supplied to the entirety of the facsimile machine. In a first preferred embodiment, the facsimile machine is controlled so that a calling signal is set as the power saving reset signal when a facsimile mode is set as the message receiving mode, and the power saving state is not reset with the calling signal when the telephone mode is set as the message receiving mode.
Abstract:
A device and a method for directing incoming calls from a single input telephone line to either a facsimile machine, a data modem, or a telephone is provided. An incoming call is initially assumed to be a voice call, with ample time provided for allowing a person to answer the phone. The device and method provide for "isolating" both a facsimile machine and a data modem until after a predetermined delay period, thus preventing them to answer the call. The delay period may, for example be three to seven rings, thus allowing ample time for an operator or answering machine to answer the call and not cause any serious inconvenience to the caller. If a person or answering machine has not answered the call within the delay period, an off-hook condition is simulated to the input telephone line, thus "answering" the call. The signal on the input telephone line is then detected. If the signal includes a DTMF digit, various functions are performed including resetting internal variables. If a facsimile handshake signal is detected, the facsimile machine is rung with a ring simulator. The facsimile machine can then read the incoming handshake signal and proceed in a conventional fashion. If, however, neither of these two signals are detected, and a telephone answering device has not answered the call, the data modem port is rung with the ring simulator. The data modem will then begin receiving the transmitted signal in a conventional fashion. If the call is answered during the delay period provided by the invention, and the transmission is a facsimile handshake signal, the call is automatically transferred to the waiting facsimile machine. If a person answers the telephone during the delay period and the call is a data modem transmission, the person must enter DTMF digits by pressing the appropriate digits on the touch-tone keypad of the telephone. The call will then be transferred to the data modem.

Abstract:
A facsimile apparatus connected on an ISDN side in a communication network in which the ISDN is connected to a telephone network includes network identifying means for identifying whether an incoming data sending party is an ISDN terminal or a telephone network terminal, CNG signal detecting means for detecting a CNG signal received via a B channel, and changeover means for changing over between automatic reception and manual reception. In a case where the CNG signal is detected, a response is made in a facsimile mode. In a case where the CNG signal is not detected, a response is made in a facsimile mode if automatic reception prevails and in a telephone mode if manual reception prevails. This arrangement eliminates communication failure due to a difference in mode between a calling side and a called side regardless of the network terminal from which a call is received.
Abstract:
A communication system, and an apparatus therefor, are used in combination with an integrated service digital network. The proposed system, and the apparatus, can achieve a change of service from an equipment to another, for example from a telephone unit to a facsimile unit, both connected to the same telephone line, without disconnecting a call made through the telephone line. For this purpose, the proposed system or apparatus has a discriminating unit for identifying a request for communication released from another unit connected to the same telephone, and a communication control unit for automatically communicating with a destination unit with which said other unit has been communicating through said telephone line.
