The present invention comprises a projection device that generates and projects a background image where the projection device further comprises a front projecting device and a retroreflective screen. The front projection device couples to a camera and comprises a projector with a removeable filter coupled to a beamsplitter enclosure. The beamsplitter enclosure comprises a beamsplitter with a quick connect coupling. A sizing ring couples the quick connect coupling to the camera lens. The removable filter in the projector may comprise a solid colored filter or a photographic image.

Reduced signals read out from the frame memory are outputted after being decoded to the original 4:4:4 component video signal by the decoding device.

According to this method, the input digital video signal is formed by sets of M' blocks with N' block containing luminance data (Y1, Y2 . . . ) and M'-N' blocks containing chrominance data (C1, C2 . . . ), the blocks containing the chrominance data (C1) are written in the first memory (FM1) and the blocks containing luminance data (Y1) are written in the second memory (FM2). Then the blocks containing the luminance data and the blocks containing the chrominance data are read simultaneously on the high speed output port of each memory, the memories being inverted at each frame, and the data eventually being processed to obtain video data in output that presents a compression ratio M/N with M>N.

A programmable video transformation rendering method and apparatus regenerates an arbitrary reverse address map according to a transformation function representing a desired video effect by using a set of parameters that are run length encoded. Each scan line in target space for an output image is divided into one or more continuous line segments in source space for the input image using a continuous function for each line segment. The parameters for each line segment are determined, encoded, and stored for execution of the transformation function. For each line segment the parameters are updated, with only those parameters needing updated being stored together with the prior parameters that do not need to be updated. The continuous function is in the form of a polynomial equation and is a compromise between the amount of data generated and the calculations required.

As a result, the image which fulfills the conditions other than the specific image is eliminated as the extracted area that has been set as an initial extracting area changes to coincide with the specific image and only the object image which fulfills the conditions is extracted. Furthermore, since the area extracting signal is stored in a memory and used for generation of the next area extracting signal, the extracted area will follow the changes in image area owing to increase in size or movement of a specific object, thereby making it possible to extract a specific image in realtime.

The synthesizer includes continuously variable controls for inputting user selections over respective ranges of adjustment, a processor programmed to calculate directly a plurality of discrete amplitude samples in a chroma cycle of a video signal corresponding to a periodic wave at a baseband frequency of the video signal with a DC level determined by the luminance, a peak-to-peak amplitude determined by the saturation, and a phase shift relative to a reference burst determined by the hue, and a multiplexing method operable to read out the discrete amplitude samples to an output, during each cycle of the chroma baseband frequency. The discrete amplitude samples are calculated for a vertical field of the composite video signal and displayed during the next field. The signal thus obtained is filtered and superimposed with a synchronizing signal. The resulting matte signal can be displayed on a standard color television monitor. The repetitive output can be provided by sequentially and repetitively routing calculated amplitude values through a digital to analog converter and summing the output with synchronizing information.

The symbol generator includes a number of separate stages that are connected in series to provide a processing pipeline. Elements for providing vertical color blends between the top of a symbol or selected background area and bottom of the symbol or background area are divided between the processing stages. Vertical color blending is achieved by mixing a difference color into a start color in an amount determined by the depth or displacement of consecutive raster lines from the top of the symbol.
