摘要: An apparatus for making dual component fibers is provided and includes a distributor having orifices in the peripheral wall and nested within a rotary spinner. The distributor is divided into a series of generally vertically-aligned compartments by baffles positioned circumferentially around the interior of the peripheral wall, with the orifices communicating with the compartments. First and second molten thermoplastic materials are supplied to the distributor and centrifuged as alternating thin layers to the face of the spinner. The spinner is also rotated to centrifuge dual component fibers through the orifices in the peripheral wall of the spinner.

摘要: An apparatus for making dual component fibers is provided and includes a spinner having peripheral and bottom walls. The spinner includes orifices located on the peripheral wall thereof for centrifuging the dual component fibers, with the spinner being divided into a series of generally vertically-aligned compartments by baffles positioned circumferentially around the interior of the peripheral wall. A first divider is provided in the spinner for directing the first molten thermoplastic material into alternate ones of the compartments, and a second divider is provided for directing the second molten thermoplastic material into the remaining ones of the compartments so that adjacent compartments contain different thermoplastic materials. Passages are located in each of the compartments through which the respective molten thermoplastic materials flow to the orifices on the peripheral wall of the spinner.

摘要: A Co-based alloy exhibits superior high-temperature strength and resistance properties. In one embodiment, the Co-based alloy contains, in weight percent, from about 0.1 to about 1.2 of C; from about 0.01 to about 2 of at least one of Si and Mn; from about 22 to about 37 of Cr; from about 5 to about 15 of Ni; from about 0.1 to about 3.5 of Re; with a balance being Co and incidental impurities. Co and C, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, Re, B, Zr, W, Mo, Ta, and Nb impart high-temperature wear resistance to the alloy to withstand repeated temperature cycling in a glass spinnaret. In one embodiment of the present invention, Hf is added to improve molten glass corrosion resistance, while Y and other rare earth elements are added in alternate embodiments to improve high-temperature oxidation resistance. Percentages by weight are disclosed for enhanced high-temperature oxidation resistance, increased fluid wear resistance and enhanced molten glass corrosion resistance.

摘要: For obtaining mineral fibers from a thermoplastic material having a high melting point, and more precisely for the regulation of the flow rate and temperature of the stream of molten material distributed on the fiber-drawing machine, the molten material is conveyed via a reservoir where the flow rate is regulated and the height of the molten material at the base of the tapping aperture is controlled by inclining the reservoir. Preferably the molten material is subject to a basic heating process which raises its temperature close to the fiber-drawing temperature and, in the vicinity of the tapping aperture, it is subject to additional heating in order to adjust the temperature precisely.

摘要: A process for forming glass filaments by utilizing centrifugal force, in which compressed gas is injected from a position near an interior of a flame port frame of a fiberizing burner toward a throat portion of a discharge port of the burner at an acute angle relative to the direction of discharge of a flame stream from the discharge port, so that the compressed gas is mixed with combustion exhaust gas at an inlet portion of the throat portion, and the mixed gas is injected from the discharge port of the burner in a direction generally parallel to the direction of the generatrix of the outer peripheral surface of the peripheral wall, thereby forming primary filaments into fine secondary filaments.

摘要: A method of making textile glass fibers in a rotary process is disclosed. A spinner bearing molten glass rotates on its axis of rotation. Glass is forced through orifices and the resulting fibers are moved along paths generally perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Prior to commingling or turn down of the fibers a quenching liquid is applied to the fibers.

摘要: Method and apparatus for attenuating glass fibers. Primary glass is delivered into a primary, high temperature, high velocity gaseous blast to produce fibers that are attenuated while carried by said primary blast. While the fibers are above the minimum glass attenuation temperature, the fiber containing primary blast is subjected to thin, closely spaced, high speed jets that deliver fuel and oxidant at a higher speed and less rate of mass flow than said primary blast essentially normal to the primary blast to increase the attenuation of the fibers and the temperature of the primary blast at one or more stations spaced downstream from the location where primary glass is delivered to one side only of said primary blast. The side of jet application may be the same or differ from one said station to another said station. Shields may be provided in spaced relation on opposite sides of the primary blast and closely offset from the opposing rows to limit the amount of atmospheric air that is entrained into the primary blast. Means is provided in heat exchanging relation with the shields to control the temperature of the surfaces of the shields so that fibers carried by the primary blast that engage the shields are prevented from sticking to the shields without lowering the temperature of the main body of the fibers to below the minimum temperature required for attenuation.
