One of the legs forms the base of the device and has a laterally extended groove formed therein in which a slide is movably received. The slide has a bearing surface that can be raised and lowered in regard to the base reference surface whereby the square is pivoted about the corner when it is resting upon a surface plate or the like whereby the other reference surface can be accurately positioned against a workpiece or the like.

    摘要: Apparatus for determining pellet length and end squareness which includes a base supporting a pair of linear variable differential transformers (LVDT) between which a pellet is placed for measuring end squareness. The LVDT's are perpendicularity detectors and each includes appropriate windings contained in a housing and an armature axially slidable therein. The armature is mounted on a shaft having extensions on opposite ends thereof. A swivel plate is attached to one end, while the other end is supported in a framework for the inspection apparatus, the arrangement being such that the housing containing the windings moves axially relative to the stationary armature. When a pellet is placed in position, each detector is advanced toward the pellet until its swivel plate contacts the pellet ends. If the pellet ends are not square, the swivel plates cock at an angle, thereby displacing the windings with respect to the armature. The relative displacement will be proportional to the tangent of the angle between the pellet ends and a plane perpendicular to the pellet axis. The pellet length is measured by a second LVDT which includes windings in a stationary housing. The armature moves relative to the windings and measures the relative distance between the swivel plates so that as the perpendicularity detectors sense the end squareness, the third LVDT senses pellet length along its axis. The output from the LVDTs is supplied to conventional readout circuitry and an indicating device which shows pellet length and end squareness.

    摘要: A universal tram is provided for aligning machine tools. The universal tram includes a slide rail, featuring a rail along its length, to which a clamping coupler attaches. In turn, the clamping coupler attaches to the indicator holder. The indicator holder is configured to hold an indicator. The slide rail is configured for direct attachment to horizontal and vertical milling machines, for example. Optionally, the universal tram also includes a machine adapter and adapter plate. The machine adapter serves as a base block for positioning a measurement or tramming device on a machine tool to which the slide rail does not directly attach—a horizontal or vertical lathe, for example. The adapter plate allows for the height of the machine adapter to be adjusted by an amount corresponding to the thickness of the adapter plate. Further, a method of using the universal tram is also provided.

The indicator is rotatable so that a machinist may read the indicator from any direction.

    摘要: A device for measuring the normality of a hole in a work piece, especially in holes used in the building of aircraft. A probe fits within the hole to be measured and is fixed in the hole by contact at the upper end of the hole with a tapered portion of the probe, and at the lower end by a flared portion of the probe. An indicator assembly is connected to the probe by a bracket. The indicator assembly has an arm which contacts the surface of the work piece. The indicator assembly is rotated around the probe during use of the gage, and the arm is vertically displaceable as this rotation occurs. A dial indicator operationally connected to the arm will register any vertical displacement of the arm during its rotation, indicating any deviancy from normality of the measured hole.
