    Abstract: A fan containment system for fitment around an array of radially extending fan blades mounted on a hub in an axial gas turbine engine. The fan containment system comprises a fan case having an annular casing element for encircling an array of fan blades. An annular fan track liner is positioned substantially coaxial to the annular casing element, and one or more pockets are provided in a radially outer side of the fan track liner. One or more dampers for damping vibration of the fan track liner are positioned in each of the one or more pockets and are arranged so as to contact the annular casing element.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a method of estimating a precursor shape (44, 45) for a part (2) suitable for manufacture via a process selected from a plurality of manufacturing processes. The method includes: generating a convergence line (20) within the confines of a final part shape (1); providing an array (18) of spaced-apart forming shape points (19) around the final part shape (1); converging said points (19) towards the convergence line (20) using a force-energy-balance technique via a movement algorithm; and applying a smoothing algorithm to the converged points (19) to create an estimated precursor shape (44, 45). The algorithms include coefficients specific to a predetermined one of said manufacturing processes.

    Abstract: An assembly of core components is provided for investment casting. First core component has an arrangement of pedestals and second core component has an arrangement holes. The first and second core components are assembled to mate in a required positional relationship. Pedestals 106 extend through the holes so that a protruding portion of each pedestal protrudes from the hole. A moulding material is applied to encapsulate the protruding portions of the pedestals to secure the pedestals with respect to the holes and thereby to secure the first core component with respect to the second core component.

    Abstract: A shaft has an axis, an outer surface, an inner surface and is arranged to rotate in a first circumferential direction. The shaft comprises a first set of equally circumferentially spaced apertures extending through the shaft between the outer and inner surfaces of the shaft. A second set of equally circumferentially spaced apertures extends through the shaft between the outer and inner surfaces of the shaft. The first and second sets of apertures are arranged in first and second planes arranged perpendicularly to the axis of the shaft. The second plane is spaced axially downstream from the first plane. Each aperture in the second set of apertures is circumferentially displaced in a second circumferential direction from a circumferential mid position between the two apertures in the first set of apertures to reduce the stresses in the shaft.

    Abstract: A lean burn fuel injector comprises a fuel feed arm and a fuel injector head. The fuel feed arm has a single pilot fuel supply passage and a single main fuel supply passage extending there-through. The fuel injector head has a coaxial arrangement of an inner pilot air-blast fuel injector and a coaxially arranged outer main air-blast fuel injector. The inner pilot air-blast fuel injector comprises a coaxial arrangement of a pilot inner air swirler passage and a pilot outer air swirler passage. The outer main air-blast fuel injector comprises a coaxial arrangement of a main inner air swirler passage and a main outer air swirler passage. The single main fuel supply passage is arranged to supply main fuel to the main inner air swirler passage. The single pilot fuel supply passage is arranged to supply pilot fuel onto the pre-filming surfaces in the pilot inner and outer air swirler passages.
