摘要: A device for tightening a vehicle seatbelt has a piston-like drive member arranged in a guide tube. A propellant gas drives the drive member by expanding in a pressure chamber adjoining the drive member. A movement transmitting system connects the drive member and the seatbelt to be tightened. The drive member is a step piston which is provided with a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber. A propellant gas discharge system supplies the propellant gas to the pressure chambers. The propellant gas flows into the first pressure chamber and the step piston is set into motion by the propellant gas. The propellant gas acting in the first pressure chamber clears a discharge orifice in the second pressure chamber after covering a first distance so the propellant gas flowing into the second pressure chamber and acting therein additionally drives the step piston.

摘要: An arrangement for attaching a vehicule safety restraint airbag cover (5) to a housing (3), particularly for use with a driver's side airbag (1). The arrangement comprises: an airbag housing (3) having an internal space for receiving an airbag (1), and a side wall having at least one raised catch member (8); an airbag cover (5) having a hinge member (6) in which is formed at least one aperture (7) through which the catch member (8) extends, and an inflator mounting bracket (10) having a base wall which is arranged adjacent and parallel to the base of the housing (3), and a side wall which is arranged to extend substantially parallel to the side wall of the housing and to sandwich the hinge member (6) of the cover (5) between the bracket (10) and the housing side wall. A metal insert (12) may be moulded into the hinge member (6) of the cover (5) to strengthen it. The side wall of the bracket (10) may be formed with teeth (14) which fit inside the upstanding catch member (8) on the side wall of the housing (3), so as to lock the hinge (6) even more securely to the housing (3) against forces applied to the cover (5). Thus the arrangement provides a relatively low cost, easily and safely assembled airbag module using a minimum number of parts.

摘要: A pretensioner for a seat belt system has first and second piston-cylinder arrangements arranged generally one on each side of a spool shaft so that in travelling along the respective cylinder, each piston engages the periphery of the spool shaft and causes it to rotate. A sensor is responsive to a crash situation to detonate a first piston drive means, and means for detonating a drive means for the second piston at the end of the stroke of the first piston. The spool shaft may be a component of a seat belt retractor. Alternatively, the spool shaft is wound with a cable that pulls on a seat belt or seat belt buckle.

摘要: A shunt is pivotally mounted to form a pendulum positioned between a reed switch and a magnet. The shunt is formed of ferromagnetic material and is mounted such that as long as it remains between the reed switch and the magnet the reed switch remains open. The shunt is held or biased between the magnet and the reed switch by the force of the magnetic attraction between the shunt and the magnet. The mass of the shunt acts as both a tilt sensor which responds to gravity and an accelerometer sensitive to crash-induced accelerations. The reed switch, magnet and shunt are mounted in a housing which positions the reed switch and magnet and controls the maximum range of motion of the pendulum-mounted shunt. An alternative embodiment employs a subassembly which includes a magnet, a shunt, and a selectively positioned mass, the subassembly is mounted to pivot over a reed switch. The magnet is positioned on or very near the pivot axis. The shunt is positioned further from the pivot axis toward the reed switch. Rotation of the subassembly about the pivot axis results in little displacement of the magnet but a large displacement of the shunt which allows the reed switch to be influenced by the magnet and close. The frequency response and sensitivity of the subassembly can be adjusted by positioning mass about the pivot axis so as to achieve a desired first and second moments about the pivot axis.

摘要: A hybrid inflator, includes a storage chamber for storing a pressurized gas and a pyrotechnic heater assembly which has a solid gas generating material within a combustion chamber. Forming the outer layer of the pyrotechnic heater assembly is a diffuser, which is inserted into the storage vessel. A closure provides a pressure seal between the storage chamber and the combustion chamber. Upon receiving a control signal, an igniter ignites the solid gas generating material. The closure ruptures, allowing a mixture of hot generated gas and stored gas to discharge through the diffuser and flow into a vehicle occupant restraint.
